Elise the budgie got her food stuck in her cover

I also posted this on budgie fourms

So tonight I said goodnight to my budgies and covered them and I hear them climb and peck for a few minutes and then they calm down. The problem was after a minute I heard nothing but shuffling around and I liked thinking someone had a night terror except when I pulled the cover off I couldn't as it was stuck to Elise's little toe I panicked for a few seconds then snapped out of it telling myself to get it together.
So outside of the cage I tried to help her since I didn't want scare her by opening the door. That didn't work so I put my hand in after grabbing scissors and she imediatly tried to lay in it (she isn't tame) & she was so still I thought she had died (when I was 4 a budget flew out & died of shock). She ended up moving and biting me trying to pull herself out and then I somehow freed her without using the scissors and then she flew to the bottom and climbed to the top and I talked to her for a few minutes as well as the other budgies.
This has never happened before, do I need to get s new cover? What can I do if this happens again?
Also please give feedback if I did anything wrong (keep in mind my mom was sleeping when this happened) Elise is ok now:)

What type of cover do you use? I find that sometimes my Birds get their toes stuck on towel material, and its a good idea to stay away from any kind if material with fraying strings or loose ends they can get tangled in. I have a little flannel quilt for one if my babies and also a fleece. You could go to a fabric store or craft store and buy some fleece by the yard. You can pick a color neutral and it will not fray, it's good for keeping bright light out and its warm too.

Sometimes those situations are just an "ah! what do I do!" moment. The important thing is you stayed calm and got it done without jumping to some drastic rescue measure like using the scissors right away. I would be super nervous about this especially close to a toe. I have a pair of cosmetic tiny round tip scissors, now that you mention it that is what I would grab if I absolutely had too. Maybe we should all consider having those.
Glad your baby is ok! Good job noticing something was not right.

Not is the ends are finished like a blanket. You could look for a baby blanket that's flannel. Or if you sew just do a little fold over edge. (I quilt but I know very few people actually have a sewing machine) otherwise the fleece is a better idea. You can cut a straight edge and it will not fray. It's a little heavier to, but it won't block out all light completely if yiu want then to see a little still. Flannel let's quite a bit of light in.

I cover my Bourke with a fleece blanket. It has gotten static a couple times but not too bad, I do not like that either. I have not had a real problem but there can be different levels of static. it's its really excessive I might find something else. Any kind of blanket, or sheet, or fabric that won't fray and has no type of weave or loops would work.
