Substrate on cage bottom

What do you use on the bottom of your bird's cage? I never have left the grate in any of our bird's cages and usually line it with newspapers, but it seems the papers have room many dark colored pictures and I don't think it's good for the birds if they chew on it.

So what do you use? And do your birds play on the bottom of the cage? TIA

Try and use actual newspapers with black print and not the advertisements flyers that are shiny and on a tougher type of paper. As I mentioned in my other post most ink these days is made from soy so its not harmful to our birds but some paper pages can be.

Use this!

Preferably use a paper that has some article about donald trump on it!

This is good ... the colored ink won't be bad for your birds.

Don't use this.

I use Zilla ground english walnut shells I get at my local bird store (I buy the 25 lb bag, lasts a good while). I use a kitty litter sifter to clean out droppings every morning & it's perfect.

I googled it too. Very interesting. Good for natural burrowing habiit and safe to ingest. Sounds like it may work well for our birds! What kind of birds do you have? So they play in it?
