a new cockatiel is on the way for my flock :D

i haven't posted much here lately but i've been lurking now that i'm a mod over at TC, it's tricky to get here lots!

but anyway i'm getting a new cockatiel!! eek i'm so excited i always said i wouldn't get another baby - but what can you do when your dream rare mutation comes along?!

it's a whiteface lutino. she's a dna sex'd girl and is about six weeks old. she's handraised and he's currently weaning her - so i'm not sure when i'll be able to bring her home. he's hopeful that she'll be ready in a couple of weeks, but i'll play it by ear. the last thing i want is an unweaned baby!

so some photos! the breeder sent these to me.

this was her as a bubba.

cuteness overload? yes!

and this is her now.

her dad is a whiteface, and he must also be split lutino. the mum looks like a whiteface clear pied. this breeder thinks she's a whiteface lutino, but she has black eyes. in my experience, black eyes = whiteface clear pied??

i'm so excited! and now i need name suggestions? as you probably know i like slightly unique names
so far i've thought of Marlowe, Freya, or Gwyn (which is Welsh for white or pure).
more ideas please

ok i'll just quickly clear up why i'm posting in ChitChat instead of General Talk. because i don't have possession of this cockatiel yet, and because the photos were given to me from the breeder, i don't really want the public being able to access them. hence ChitChat - where only members can see

Congratulations on becoming a Mod on TC. I guess it is what you wanted?
You will see I do have a number of detractors there?
Other comments about that forum I will leave unsaid.

Congratulations on finding your dream bird and hand tame at that.
Sertiels has a great item on Lutinos on her web site and Maxollie has posted the link
on Tailfeathers where we were discussing Snowdrop and Snowy.

As for names I make a short list and run them past them and see if I get a positive reaction.
Not that I did this with Snowy. And with Angel, I called Blondy at first. As she was a hyper sensitive bird and freaked out all the time. Now she will sometimes take food out of my hand. I changed her name after getting that flight photo and decided she was poetry in motion.

A tribute to my lost ones. RIP.

I'm so so jealous! You're the second person waiting for your white cockatiel to come home on here at the moment they're my favourite too. Those and white face pied or pearl pied congratulations! I need to get back over to TC. I've been slacking since all this rubbish happened with my flock

Sertiels is one of the best I know in the bird world with Tiels.

http://www.justcockatiels.net/index.html

http://www.justcockatiels.net/lutino.html

Mutations still confuse me.
Sex linked and splits to me are a nightmare. I wanted a all white Tiel, but I wanted a male to balance my flight. But this is not so easy to get as if I understand it right the mutation is sex linked.
Angel was my first, but she DNA'ed female.

So I tried again. This time I got a DNA done before I bought. Snowy arrived and looked all white in his junior feathers. but has shown cinnamon in his back feathers.
The breeder says they know his parents history and are not sure why he turned out like this.
Monica who is also in touch with Susan Russo (Sertiels) came up with some ideas.
And the above link may help explain.

A tribute to my lost ones. RIP.

Very pretty cockatiel. I've seen quite a few white faced lutino's for sale here. Of course, they're called albino's, but as I understand it, there's no such thing.
