Tell Me About YOU!

I had this idea that I thought I'd share. We always share stuff about our parrots, but hardly do we share stuff about ourselves! I want to find out more about the members of Talk Parrots. Feel free to tell us whatever you'd like, and don't feel pressured to share information that you don't want to share.

What a good idea Abby!

As you're aware I already told members something about myself in the MOTM thread, but in support of this thread I'll repeat it here.

For those of you who know nothing, or very little about me, I'm seventy one years old, well and truly retired, and have a few mobility problems which prevent me from walking far or standing for even short periods, in fact I have to use a wheelie walker to get around, but at least I can still get around. I love my birds, and just dote on them and spend the biggest percentage of my day doing things for them, such as making toys.

My other passion, apart from my ever loving wife, is my involvement in my local men's shed, and if you don't know what a men's shed is then just Google Men's Shed, or check out the website I built and maintain for our men's shed http://www.bcmsa.org.au

I notice that ParrotletsRock wrote that she met her hubby on line. Well that's a great way to meet as that's how I met my wife Bev. We were both divorced at the time, and met on line back in 2000.
We lived in different states, I made the move, we lived together after getting to know one another, then got married and lived happily ever after.

Now Abby, as the originator of this thread perhaps we should hear from you.

Cheers,

John.

Errrrrrr... Hmm.. I won't say too much but there's a lot to say. I will say that I'm from the Birmingham area in England and that I grew up in the care system but was lucky enough to have my grandparents adopt me before I was put into foster care!

I just love learning about other people and their lives.

Daisy it does seem that you were very lucky to have your grandparents adopt you. I'd love to know more of your story, but I'm sure that there's a great deal of pain involved which would make you reluctant to discuss it on an open forum, and I can appreciate that.

Cheers,

John.

Ok I have a bit more time so can share a bit more... I was an Air Force brat... Dad was in the Canadian Air Force. I lived for 4 years in France in the early 60's but was to young to remember much. I have always loved animals and drug them home when ever I could. Luckily I had very loving understanding parents...lol. I am a cancer survivor! I had cancer in 2012, but so far so good!

Ok here we go: I am 33 years old and very happily married for 7 years. My husband and I met in graduate school. No kids by choice. I decided after a few years of marriage (my husband was iffy on having kids to begin with but was fine with one if I really wanted to), I was not going to have kids for so many reasons--a lot to do with my childhood and how I took care all of my siblings. I was the oldest and my mom struggled with addiction and being bipolar. My dad was also an alcoholic and didn't raise me. Also because neither my husband nor I have any immediate family support system and I know it takes a village to raise a child.

Despite my efforts to take care of my siblings, we all ended up being split up and going to foster care. I went into several abusive homes before getting a scholarship and going to college, and then later graduate school. By the time I was 26, most of my family had passed away, suddenly or from terminal illness. So I worry a lot about my husband's and my pets' health-in addition to my own and am very into nutrition/natural preventive remedies/research. All that death has really made me into quite the worry wort.

I was raised around horses, chickens, dogs, cats, birds, goats, you name it except reptiles and I always loved animals. Through all the tough times, I always sought them out as a refuge but with all of the drama, I couldn't really dive into any hobbies as child or young adult. Anyway, after college my life got better and better. After growing up poor, I finally had enough money to be comfortable and a wonderful person to be with everyday. And all of a sudden I was able to start some hobbies and get to know who I really was---enter crazy bird lady/bookworm/crochet queen/aspiring amateur photographer, lol.

So I think that about sums it up . Thanks for reading. Glad to get to know everyone.

Not sure you want a life story or not, hahaha.

I am 24 years old, have been in a relationship with my Partner, Mike, for 5.5 years now, and we have a 2 year old Son. Mike and I met through a mutual Friend at my Best Friend's house at a party. Our Friend brought Mike to the party and we met there. At the time I was in a "relationship" with another guy for like a week and I dropped him like a hat when I met Mike! We hit it off immediately, it was amazing. ^_^

I am a Military Spouse and when our Son was only 2 months old we moved to another Province as Mike got posted out here. Both of our Families live a good 12 hour drive away and it's been really, really hard on both of us having moved somewhere with no family with a newborn and having to cope. Now that our Son is 2 it's become a lot easier though.

I have always, always loved Animals of all types and grew up a complete Tomboy with 2 Brothers. My Dad would always take us to the local Wetlands to "hunt" for Snakes, Frogs, Turtles, etc. It was a blast, one of the best memories of my childhood! I think that's where my love of Reptiles came from.

I am an artist; I love to draw, paint, sculpt, take photos, etc. I just love to lose myself in a good book, I am a very introverted person and don't do that great in social situations. Probably why I spend so much time online as it's easier to interact with people when I don't have to see them face to face, lol.

I am a complete nerd, ha. I absolutely love Biology, especially Genetics and the Human Body. I love BBC's Sherlock, and Doctor Who, and Merlin, and I have an unhealthy obsession with Benedict Cumberbatch.

UmMmm, I think that's all I'm going to share right now because I'll end up writing a novel!

Welcome to the club, I was diagnosed with a malignant tumor at age five and had it removed using radical surgery over seven operations. That was sixty six years ago and I'm still alive and kicking...well there's not a lot of kick these days.

Cheers,

John.

Ok so I'm 27, love to Ice skate, read, draw and sometimes paint, love animals have recently started breeding my tiels. I didn't talk at all in school until 7th grade and I really don't like doing anything social because it makes me stressed and really nervous unless I'm with family, never been in a relationship and I've always wanted to do vet nursing but being very quiet gets in the way. So I kind of live a very dull and boring life

So I'm 49, unmarried and have no children. But I have family support from my Dad and my brothers.
I'm retired because of my health.
In my working life I was a social worker, I worked with illiterate adults and underprivileged young people with job problems.

My hobbies beside the birds are my little garden

and my scooter.

In Duesseldorf City this is much easier and faster than going by car.
Even if I had more money I wouldn't change.

I'm 43 and I was born an Air Force brat. I call Idaho my home state, but I currently live in Texas. My favorite places I've lived was Hawaii and Germany.

I have two boys (18 and 21.) I've been with my partner 14 years. She's as crazy about animals as I am. We have 4 dogs, 2 cats, 3 parrots and a fish tank.

A couple years ago I lost 60 lbs and found a new passion, cycling.

In this pic my partner is on the left with the red helmet mugging for the camera. I'm on the right with the blue helmet.

This is me on my mountain bike

I'm 56 years young. I was born in Texas, but spent most of my life in upstate New York (same city as BirdCrazyJill) then moved to the Tampa Bay area and have lived here for over 20 years (couldn't take the winters anymore ). My husband and I have been married for 35 years. No kids by choice. Over the years we have had 3 Great Danes, 2 horses, 1 Siamese cat, 1 Siamese fighting fish, 1 piharana, 5 budgies, and 1 linnie. I love the Lord. My faith is a very important part of my life. I love my husband, my 3 budgies and my linnie. I love to draw, paint, crochet, and play in the garden. I am blessed to be able to work from home as a medical transcriptionist for the last 25 years, although I'm afraid my job is going the way of the dinosaurs soon because of electronic medical records, but I hope to be able to hang on until retirement. It is so wonderful to be able to meet so many kind, knowledgeable and friendly people on this forum. Working at home makes it hard for me to socialize much, so being able to talk with such nice people who share a passion and love for birds and animals is such a blessing. I feel like I am part of a family here. God bless you all!

And God said, "...let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." And God saw that it was good.
