I Found my Calling!

So I don't know about all of you guys but it has taken me 7 years from the day that I graduated high school to figure out what I want to do with my life.

I have contemplated everything from Marine Biology to Egyptology, from Animal Health Technician to Photography to Graphic Designer. Every career I have ever considered I have been interested in, and I THOUGHT I would enjoy, but they never grasped me when I researched them further. I would look in to schools that I could go to, what jobs I could get afterwards, etc, and after a few weeks I would just drop it.

Not with this.

I have never felt this way with anything in my life in terms of a job or career or going back to school! I feel like this program and career is calling to me and it brings out an absolute PASSION in me that I have honestly never felt before! It makes me so very excited to just get started and get on with my life.

This would be Makeup Design for Film and Television. Now for those of you who don't know what that it, it includes: special effects make-up, high fashion, beauty, corrective, and all sorts of make-up. What I'm most interested in is the special effects make-up, so basically you making someone in to a completely made up character.

My goal is to eventually be working on movies and television shows.

I have always been interested in special effects make up my whole life but it wasn't until recently that I found out that you could actually go to school for it! For some reason I had the idea that you had to be self-taught.

In the past 6 months or so I have become a HUUUUUGE Doctor Who fan, and the special effects make up on that show is absolutely amazing. It sparked in me an interest again to actually look in to this as a realistic career choice for me. And I found it!

So this is the school and the program that I am going to be applying to. The top make-up program in the world.

Watch the videos, they are fantastic!

Any ways, just thought I'd share my excitment with all of you!

Thank you! It's going to be difficult, definitely! 8 hours a day of class time plus extra project time equalling out to about 70 hours of school work a week for a year. It's going to be so hard, especially having my Son too, but soooo worth it!

That's awesome. Does it require a lot of travel? For movie sets on location? I always loved watching special effects shows and when my kids watched Harry Potter and were afraid of Voldemort, I went on youtube and showed them a video of how a person was transformed into a scary monster, it seemed to help them.

I believe there will be quite a lot of travel, yes. I think it'll be awesome though Vancouver has a lot of film studios and so I think it'll be good to have home base there, close to home!

That sounds awesome Kayla! My friend went to college for 2 years and got her qualification for art (she's really amazing at any art form and is a real whizz at making things too) but she decided to go straight back and do a theatrical make up course. The work she has posting on Facebook is insane! I have other friends who've done a similar course and they haven't come up to scratch with it. I think you'll go really far with it though, you're a brilliant artist I'll have to get some photos of her work for you, I think you'd enjoy it

Thank-you Daisy, I am soooooooo excited! This school only has I think 3 or 4 classes a year for this course and they only accept 18 students for each class. They get about 20,000 applications a year from all over the world! But my admissions advisor says that my portfolio is amazing and that he has no doubt I'd be a perfect fit for the program!

And I would love to see photos of her work!
