Gareth got a job!!

I'm so excited!!!!! Gareth got hired with Border Patrol and will be stationed in Yuma, Arizona. It's right by the border of California. It's not a border city, the county it's in stops just before the border, but it's near enough it has it's own station. There is also a big Marine Corps base by the city, so it's very safe. It was rated one of the best places to live by Money Magazine in 2006 and it's right by one of the tributaries of the Colorado River I'M SO HAPPY I COULD SCREAM!! lol!! 2 years he's been working a security job, waiting for a federal job to stick. SO! I'll be looking into what it takes for me to get certified to teach in Arizona and will start applying for jobs. I'm going to see if my company has anything near the area I can transfer to. I'm probably going to plan on being out there come January, provided I can get a job. I may just be saving up enough money to drive my tush out there and squat while I apply for jobs and interview.

Anyone familiar at all with the area, any impressions you can give? I've been to Arizona before, stayed near Phoenix for a few days then went down to Tuba City and I absolutely loved it.

For you Cali members (Peggy, Sophia)... I may be planning a road trip to visit you once I settle in! It's by the South Eastern border of Cali, it's pretty much a straight shot west to get to San Diego.

OMG I can't stop smiling!! It's such a big step for us, I could cry. We've both been living with our parents, we want to get married and move on with our lives but we couldn't until at least one of us had a "real" job and now it's finally happening...

Sorry to gush, but I just HAD to share it with someone and I know you gals are always so supportive

He has to go to Arizona on the 22nd for Orientation, then to New Mexico the 24th for more Orientation, then the 90 day academy begins the 26th. Once he gets thru the academy, he'll get stationed in Yuma. Once he's done with the academy, and 100% has the job (it's very slim odds to fail the academy, but I can't plan on moving until its a done deal), I'll be looking into jobs and moving out there. I'm going to start saving money - enough to cover my car insurance and credit cards as those are my primary bills because my car is paid off, for at least 2, maybe 3 months. I'll be requesting a deferment on my student loan that way, if I don't get a job, it's one less bill to pay. That way, if I move out there and don't get a job right away, I can pay my bills. I'll be living on Gareth's charity because I won't be able to help with rent if I'm unemployed, but I told him to get a place he can afford without my help because I don't know when I can move in, so he needs to be self sufficient.

Man, so much to wrap my head around - I keep checking myself to believe it's real! ARIZONA!!! Man, moving out is gonna be a rough one, I'm gonna need a moving truck for the cages and another travel cage for the little birds lol!

OK! An update - Gareth passed his final physical this morning, so he's officially accepted! Now he goes to the 4 month academy, which he gets paid salary for, and then off to his job! We fly out to AZ tonight, so if I'm not posting a lot, that's why hehe. Tho we get free wifi in the hotel, so I'll probably be on. Can't wait! We're touring the three apartment complexes Friday. I'll take plenty of pictures!

So... I have some very exciting news.... Ready for it....?

I'M MOVING TO ARIZONA IN JUST UNDER 3 WEEKS!

The moving company fell through so we are going to rent a uhaul and drive all our stuff out... so since we're doing that, it's so much cheaper and easier for me to just ride out with him and bring all my things rather than wait a month and do it all over again!

My official move out date is January 18th - We'll start driving and we plan on arriving in Yuma on that Saturday.

Is it bad that one of the most exciting things about this is being able to turn in my 2 weeks at work and being able to screw them over? They have done nothing but give me a hard time, sabotage me at work, violate my privacy, etc etc... the list goes on. It's been a horrible job, almost not worth the raise I got and I can't wait to throw it in their faces and watch them scramble to replace me

So yay! Moving in 3 weeks! I still can't quite believe it hahaha

I work at a security company and it's very chauvinistic. It's all who you know, not what you do. I have turned in 2 separate cases of sexual harassment, one of them hacked my email and printed things up, they go in my office and deliberately sabotage me... and the company does nothing about it because the 2 causing problems are buddies with the woman in HR It's very frustrating, but now I get to pay them back >:3 So it all works out!

WOWIE WOW WOW!!!!! What a great way to start 2012!!!!! This is wonderful news!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!

My husband and I moved to Missouri from California in 1976 (back in the stone ages!) and we also moved by ourselves with the good old U-Haul and towing my car. We moved in July and the truck wasn't air conditioned, so we traveled at night. We had two dogs and one Parakeet (named Arnold). Try finding a motel for day sleepers that accepts 2 dogs and 1 bird! We were only married four years at the time. I left all my family behind, and we didn't know a soul in Missouri.

It was stressfull, exciting and scary all rolled into one, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat! We love Missouri and have wonderful friends here.

So look ahead, look to the future you will have together, and FULL STEAM AHEAD!!!!!

Thanks! Since it's just the birds in cages, I don't think we're going to look for animal friendly hotels... I don't think they will notice or care, and it's just Goober and the linnies. So I think we'll take our chances lol

Jenny - You should be fine. The motels worried about the dogs I think, but all they did was sleep! We also had to find a place to park a giantic truck with a car towed behind it! What fun!

Ahhhh, the good old days when we were young(er)!

yeah, that part will be fun. And I agree, I don't think they will be worried about caged birds and all we'll be doing is getting in, sleeping, then waking up early and off we go!
