African Grey or a Car?

Which do you think?
As a teenager who is close to getting her liscense and craves to be independent and have freedom, I still think I want a Grey.
I could always save up for a car after the Grey, vice versa, but I really wanna Grey....

that's an easy one - get the car, silly! You have your whole life ahead of you to get a Grey, as hard as it is to wait

A car will take 5x as long to save up for as a Grey....5x more hours at McD's....AND I have to pay for my own car insurance and gas, as my parents don't want to. And when I remember that part, I think maybe I should just buy a Grey first, save up for a car, buy a car, and then the money I'm bringing in after that will have to be used for car insurance and gas, and if I'm paying for car insurance and gas if I were to buy a car first, little money will be going towards a Grey, and well....I prefer a parrot sooner. Does that make sense?

Car insurance is darn expensive....

personally, its a tough choice. a grey IS cheaper in the long run. you dont have to pay insurance or gas on it lol

a car, you got maintenance, gas, insurance, and heaven knows what else. gas is so expensive. owning a car would cost way more than our rent.

a grey, you got food, toys, and time really. lots of time. vet expenses... which a car is still more money. and a lot more fun to pay for lol

both, if you think about when you move out, the car will cost more than your rent good chance but the grey may be loud in an appartment (possible). another downside to the grey, is the longer you wait on the car, your insurance goes up....

so its a tough call. my fiance and i both would agree on the grey however at the moment as its cheaper in the long run of things

I'm going with a Grey. Then I can devote all my money after I get a Grey to saving up for a car and car insurance, without having to set any aside for a Grey. I'm so excited!

Abby,
This might be a dumb question, but will you have access to borrowing a car from your parents for trips you really need to make?
My sons stayed at home while they got associates degrees, and I did not charge them rent or board. During that time, I also provided them with transportation and paid for their tuition. I wanted to do this for them, to help them get started in life. Not all parents have this desire, and not all parents who would desire to do this have the means. I did, and both sons took advantage of the offer.
With this in place, both sons were also able to have pets, which they both enjoy a great deal.
If you need the car to get to college, or if you need the car in order to work, then that will have to take precedence over a pet of any type. This decision actually depends on whatever your parents are willing to provide for you at this point and in the future.
Old lady talking here - but I gotta be who I am.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

Yes, I can use their cars to drive myself.
My parents and I have already figured that I will stay here for a few years after high school while I go to college, and while I'm attending college, they won't require I pay rent. During this time, I will save up for my own place and such. I think it's a good plan. Is that what you mean, Nanay?

Yes, Abby,
If you and your parents have that agreement, seriously, I'd bum their car from them.

I hate it when young people buy a car and then have to work and spend everything they earn just to keep up the car. They are trying to gain freedom with the car, but become its slave. That's just my opinion. You have to live in your own situation.

Both of those options require continued financial investments for a very long time.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

Wow, that's so true. Becoming a slave to the car. I feel like I'd just be working to keep the car, and to be honest, I don't mind not having a car. I rather have a parrot. So before I get a car, I'm getting a Grey, probably one of the last items that is bought for myself to enjoy before I have to start paying for car insurance. I'll be looking up to you a lot with this one, Nanay!
