does anyone sell things on Etsy?

i have been thinking about selling some of my art on etsy, but i am not sure if i could sell digital copies of it or if it would be worth it? I'm just wondering if anyone has had success with selling things on there....

Yes I crochet and sells hats on there. I make blankets too, but don't sell them because nobody would ever pay what I would charge

Here is my store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/JKrochetDesigns

and here is my crochet facebook page that has a LOT more photos on it: https://www.facebook.com/pages/JKroc...72521649473745

It's a pretty good way of selling, but obviously nothing is guaranteed. Basically, it's free to have a "store", each listing costs I think 30 cents and etsy takes 3% of everything you sell. You only have to pay your bill once a month though. You should use paypal to secure all of your payments, it is the most safe. But you can choose all of your pricing and if the buyer pays shipping (and how much).

The way they set up the listing creator has become pretty fool proof, as in it makes it VERY easy for you as a seller to create your listing. I would definitely try it out! I have been selling for like 4 years now. I don't sell very much, more patterns than actual items, but it adds some extra pocket change here and there which is nice!

I just want to do it so I can maybe have a little extra income. I would like to sell digital copies that way there's no shipping and I can sell several rather than one hard copy. This kind of stuff confuses me so I might contact them. I like working with tangible things! It would be nice to sell some though you have some cool stuff by the way! Lots of talent I used to crochet a little, mostly squares and circles. Once I did crochet a pattern for a cube and then I sewed it up into a cube, but that was the extent on my talent

everyone has their own "niche" it's definitely worth contacting them, they have great customer service! I'm pretty sure they also have an FAQ page for sellers

I've been on Etsy multiple times. I really like Etsy. I've sold a few items on there. I crochet, knit, and do other little crafts.

what do use as a payment for people buying? do you have people pay with credit cards etc? i don't understand how you would get the money lol does it go into a bank account? i know you can use paypal, but it is my understanding that it costs to use it when you are selling things and you need a business account and not a personal account.

you don't need a business account, my etsy store is linked to my paypal account, so when someone pays for their purchase it automatically goes into my paypal account (and yes paypal takes a tiny amount per transaction) and then I can move the money over into my personal checking account after it clears. It's the safest way in my opinion because if there is ever an issue, you are protected by paypal!

Ok so I can just make a personal account for PayPal... On the faqs they said to make a business PayPal, but if the personal one works, I will do that!

if you were creating this as like a second income, like planning on mass-producing these items to sell, then I would say yes make a business account (you are only allowed to withdraw up to $500 a month with a personal paypal account) but if you are just going to do what I do and use your etsy store as a sort of "hobby store" then I think a personal account would be fine. I already had a paypal account opened when I started my etsy store so I just linked that, I don't know if there's a huge difference between a personal account and a business account, I'm sure there is, but just saying you don't HAVE to have a business account

Oh ok, I think I might just do that. Does a normal PayPal cost money to sign up?

I contacted etsy with some questions but they still haven't gotten back to me. I guess if its free to create a store, then I will just make one and figure things out along the way. I would imagine that I can contact the buyer if there is trouble with mailing. It seems pretty idiot proof so it shouldn't be hard

it is free to open a paypal account, the only thing you pay for is the portion they take out of each transaction (it's like 1 or 2%), it just takes a couple days to link your checking account because they do this thing where they make 2 deposits of a couple cents and you have to verify the amounts. Easy though, and you are protected in all future transactions!

I have an Etsy store Auburn Creations with K
but sadly don't have anything listed right now.
Since I mainly paint I usually only list one or two things at a time and I've had no luck selling with Etsy so far. I think most people go on looking for crafty things. :\

I agree, I think most people are looking for personalized things on there. I have to say I've sold more crochet patterns than anything else I have listed. Coming in second would be my character hats, like a dinosaur with tail, frog face, hello kitty, etc.

I just checked my shop stats (which they do for you, also really helpful!) and I have had my shop since 2011, I have had 174 orders and made an overall $1700 USD!! I didn't even realize, considering my patterns are between $4 and $10 and my hats are about $20!

If you're doing it for a hobby, then it can't hurt just to have one (if you want to), like I said you only pay when you list something (listings last for 4 months) or sell something (they take their tiny percentacge), it's free to have a store!
