Really Cool Geological Phenomenon!

Hey!

Did anyone else in the US on the East Coast feel the earthquake this morning? It was pretty cool Apparently Virginia got a 5.9 on the Richter scale, and we felt the aftershocks in Philadelphia and New Jersey, don't know about other places.

I was at school on the second floor -- the whole building wibbled and swayed, I thought it was a fluke until I heard that it was an actual earthquake. Apparently it set the record for the strongest earthquake recorded in Virginia! No one was hurt and there was no damage done in the city (or anywhere else that I know of) so I'm in the "it was cool" camp rather than feeling like it was scary. CC looked a little freaked when I came home though, I wonder if the birds felt it more than I did? Some of my classmates said they didn't feel it at all! I don't know how you can miss something like that.

Anyway, if you DID feel it, you can help out the USGS scientists who study earthquakes by reporting what you felt/saw here: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak....disabled.html

Seriously!! Fortunately it doesn't seem like anyone's been hurt or had any severe damage, just some knocked-askew paintings and wiggly walls and freaked out birds!

We live in VA about an hour from the epicenter. I have been in West Coast earthquakes before, but this one was a bit different. There was a very loud noise that accompanied it, and it went on for some time. We are all safe....there have been a lot if buildings damaged, especially ones made from brick.
