Welcome home, Clancy!

SO....

....I've been adopted by a small, stubborn orange tabby cat. He's four months old and his name is Clarence (Clancy). At present he is tearing around my house, attacking my feet and making the birds nervous. Hopefully he'll get calmer with time.

He was a stray that wandered onto my stoop this morning around 3-4 am and wouldn't leave. He followed me to the bus stop and was still here when I came home from class. He wouldn't leave, so I gave in and took him to the vet (after checking with a few neighbors to be sure he wasn't someone's).

Vet says he has fleas, and gave him some treatment, and that he will need his vaccinations and to be neutered. I'm working on finding him a good low-cost clinic for that, since I don't have much spare cash. But I did get him the good kitten food and a makeshift litter box, and he seems quite happy. Pics to follow!

he's adorable! Right now I hate kittens I'd never met one before and I loved looking at them. Then Jack got two, and now I dislike them very much. They pee on me when I sleep when I'm told they're litter trained, they bite and scratch me randomly, when I was dying my hair Floyd jumped out of nowhere and sunk his claws into my scalp, they chase my feet and toes, they purposely try to get on my nerves and they poo on just about anything I've decided that I shall adopt an older cat from a shelter, never a kitten! I think they're cute to look at but man they have too much energy.

ANYWAYS, congrats on getting him! He is really gorgeous! I hope he calms down

LOL Daisy! That's typical kitten behavior. Clancy is fortunately litter trained already, but I have to do a lot of work on his "people skills". He definitely thinks hands and feet are toys -- he keeps leaping over my laptop and attacking the hand I use to move the mouse, hehe.

Just remember that they're animals just like our birds! We have to be patient with them. Someone once said that cats don't "try to get back at us" by peeing on us or our stuff, etc, any more than a bird "screams to punish us". They're just doing what comes naturally! And just like a dog or a parrot, you have to train them to behave properly.

He is so cute, isn't he? And like I said before, I'm not even really a cat PERSON. I'm a BIRD person. But....he's just so cute....

I ABSOLUTLY HATE CATS! Once I had 2 ducks and in the middle of the night one took a head of a duck!!! They were outside becuase they were learning to sleep outdoors so they'd be ready to leave. I cried for a LONG time! But that one's cute though!

sorry guys major cat person here lol

he is just too cute!! lucky for you male cats are cheaper than females to fix! he should settle down around 12-13 months old male kittens are rambunctious (why i got all girls... girly kittens are much calmer and not so rough)

but they really mellow out and become very laid back

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE CATS! I really do adore them. I love their attitude and how they know they're better than everything I love them. I used to walk past Jacks house for like 2 years and pick up this really cute tabby cat and cuddle it. I never knew Jack then but I get to cuddle Dave more often. I'd kill for a cat but my granddad said there is absolutely NO way I can have one while I'm here. I hope to have a ragdoll once I've moved though

Sad Update

I'm sorry to report this

Clancy has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Over the last 24 hours of his life he had begun to act very strangely, couldn't keep his balance, and had personality changes. The vet examined him yesterday and said due to his background as a stray and the fact that there have been rabies outbreaks in the area, she could not do anything but recommend that he be euthanized and his brain examined for traces of the disease. In the past 24 hours he had been exhibiting personality changes, increased aggression and some bizarre physical behavior. The vet couldn't pinpoint the source. Due to public health concerns she said I really had few choices, and the ones I did have were prohibitively expensive (in the thousands of dollars).

Then the lady I had to surrender him to at the shelter basically accused me of being heartless sellout. So as I'm standing there whispering to my cat that I love him and it won't hurt and he'll be happy where he's going, she's telling me that I should use my school scholarship to save him, as if I wouldn't if I could have. So on top of losing my friend, I felt like a jerk, too.

And for the final float in the suck-parade, I had to go to the ER and wait 6 hours for 6 PAINFUL rabies shots in case he infected me. Joy.

Rest in peace, Clancy. You will be forever loved.

I'm so very sorry. Making that decision is hard enough, you should not have been treated that way. I had to say goodbye to a cat because the surgery that "might" have saved his life would have been at least $2,000.00. So I know how you feel about that part. But I wasn't treated poorly because of my decision.

OHMYGOSH!!! I am so sorry! Please don't let her extreme views allow you to feel badly. You did a wonderful thing giving that orange kitty love in his final days, in addition you don't know who you saved by getting him to the vet before he was able to infect wild animals, pets or people with rabies. Nonmatter what she thinks or said to you, you did a good thing.

I'm so sorry to hear this... Clancey. Don't let the lady offend you or get to you - often times they are not realistic and are jerks. They euthanize countless animals daily and, to assuage their own guilt, they accost people who are trying to do their best

i am so so sorry to hear this. but at least he is not suffering. RIP Clancy

the lady is just rude. flat out rude. you were doing what you could. if you didnt have the money, what could you do? let him suffer until the year you did? no, you made the right decision for him, despite what she says.
