WELL! This has been a NASTY day!!!! :(

Monday is off to a yucky start!

I gave Harley (my Hahn's Macaw) his last dose of meds yesterday afternoon. Last night I noticed a bit of sniffling on the right side (same side as before) after he did a bit of wing-flapping exercise, but it stopped right away. This morning, I could still hear it after no exercise, so I put a call in to the vet immediately. He is not in today (other regular vets are, but I only want him), so I left a message for a vet tech to call. This is a real busy place, and they make call backs between patients.

In the meantime, I started a load of wash. I have a beautiful slate blue high efficiency front loading washer and dryer, about 2 years old (Samsung). They are in the basement. A few minutes later, my husband hollered up that something was going on with the washer. I ran downstairs and there was water gushing from the detergent drawer! (It's a slide in drawer that dispenses detergent, bleach, fabric softener, etc, at the right time). Luckily, there's a drain right in front of the washer. We shut everything down, started it up again and the same thing happened. Hubby started checking stuff out, but couldn't find anything wrong. We called Samsung and they referred us to a local appliance repair company. We called them and they said they'd get right back to us after they check out the model number????? (what's up with that?) They did tell us it's $130 just to come out -- UGH!

We called a few other places locally and either they didn't answer the phone or they didn't repair Samsungs. I checked on line and found a place that charges $40 to come out, and repairs Samsungs, so we left a message for them. The first place still hadn't called back.

Of course, you know what happened next! The second place we called, called back first, and as soon as we got on the phone with him, the animal hospital showed up on call waiting! My husband kept talking to the repair guy and I ran to my cell phone and immediately called the vet's office back. The vet tech was already on the phone with another call, so I had to leave another message -- argh!!!

So, at this point, the repair guy is coming out Wednesday morning. He said he's seen this kind of thing before, so hopefully, he'll be able to fix it.

The vet tech called back and said she forwarded my message to the avian vet and he will call me back tomorrow when he comes in. She said, however, if I felt Harley needed to be seen immediately, I could bring him in today to see another vet. I told her no, that I'd wait until Tuesday and talk to the vet who's seen him all along. I'm going to keep after this until he's all better! Gosh, I hope he gets over this!

My friend, Cheryl, called this morning and said her roof in her condo was leaking around a skylight (it rained all night). She called the condo office and the lady told her "we'll try to get someone out maybe THIS WEEK" -- YIKES! It's supposed to rain off and on for the next three days!

NOT a good day today! Will post again after I talk to the vet tomorrow (Tuesday). I imagine he'll want to see him.

Thanks, Donna. My main worry right now is Harley. He's such a wonderful bird, I just want him to be well and happy! Luckily, he's still very active, talkative, eating well, etc., so that's good. It's just this little "sniffle" noise that so worries me. He's not anywhere near as bad as when I first took him to the vet, but he's still not totally over it. He's had many days in the past two weeks that there were no sniffles at all and I could feel good breathing on that side, but now, well, it's just not right.

Will post what happens tomorrow. Thanks for your kind words!

Thanks, everyone! I'm sure anxious to talk to the vet tomorrow. I'm going to push for bringing him back in for another look-see, perhaps x-rays, which he mentioned the last time I was there.

The washer will get fixed after we throw some $$$ on it! I'll be worried until Harley is better.

Maybe it's like it is with people where the cold is gone but you just have a little lingering sniffle or cough. Hopefully he's still on the mend.

Major appliances always break at the worst time. My stove just needed repairing and it's under a year old. It's so frustrating how nothing is made to last anymore.

Hope you have a better Tuesday.

Bob - He was taking the meds for Sinusitus -- there's another post about this -- "Harley Goes to the Vet" -- it starts out talking about his new bird wellness check, and later on goes into "Harley Goes Back to the Vet". I don't have a link, but maybe you can find it.

The vet called this morning and we have an appointment for Wednesday at 12:30. He's going to do a re-check and take x-rays. He said they will have to sedate him a little in order to take the x-rays. My poor baby! I've got to find out what's going on though.

At the end of the conversation, the vet said that the bird shop will be covering the charges. I'm glad they are standing by their guarantee, but I so want Harley to be well!

I'll post tomorrow after we get home. Please everyone, keep Harley in your thoughts.

Good, I'm glad the store is standing behind their guarantee and covering the x-ray. Harley getting better is obviously the most important thing but an x-ray and all the continued visits can add up really quickly
