Multiple reptile syndrome

I have MAS - multiple animal syndrome. But oh well. Here's a taste of my MRS! I'm crazy for reptiles too!!! Here's some pics of some of the reptiles. I didn't get some of everybody though. Also, not taken on my DSLR! Sorry!

Squishy and Squirt the musk turtles (mines Squishy and Jack's is Squirt. Squirt is the smaller of the two)

not finished yet, can't fit any more pics on! continue below. Excuse the chipped nail polish by the way, I nibble it!

They are so cute! I used to have a baby painted turtle, they are so cute when they are little.....musk turtles stay pretty small though I believe.

Here's Alabama, the yellow-bellied slider I bought Jack. She looks filthy because she is. She came to us so grubby but she's had a good shed and she's just shedding her scutes, all the muck is going!

Here's Caesar, an Amel corn snake

Here are Lenny and Marge the bearded dragons. Marge is the one on the right and Lenny the left

Hatchlings are adorable but sadly a lot don't survive very well unless kept by people who really know what they're doing. I'm glad I found this out sooner! I've learnt loads more about keeping them now musk turtles usually grow to about 4 inches. My Squishy was the same size as Squirt when we bought them but he just went BOOM into a growth spurt, while Squirt stayed the same

Jack does too I would never never never never never never never neglect an animal. I wont lie, I'm actually meant to be getting another bearded dragon at some point next week basically, my uncle is working on a job at somebodies home and their son has a bearded dragon. His older sisters boyfriend also had one, but was not looking after it at all it saddens me! So he gave him to his girlfriend but their mom doesn't want it anymore because they hardly bother with the one they've got. I should be getting him with his set up and stuff for free. All is well! I love reptiles. I didn't realise it before. I just noticed I was buying an awful lot of them

Such cute reptiles! I have my heart set on an Anery Kenyan Sand Boa. If I ever get the time and space, I would also love a blood python and a frilled dragon. The local reptile store had one they were willing to GIVE to me if I bought a cage, but they need room to run, so a 4"x6" terrarium, preferably nice and tall with levels and there's just no way I can do that! But he was SO sweet, would sit on my chest/shoulder and close his eyes while I pet him

Soo cute all of them.

Daisy do you use a filter for your turtle tanks? If so which one do you use and how do you like it? I'm not very happy with my current filter, it's a good filter, but it just can't keep up with my RES's .

I don't know about turtles, but the best filter I ever had when I had fish ( I sold them to make room for bird cages...lol) was Aqua-Clear... they are not to terribly expensive... pretty quiet and very powerful. They have a large sponge along with ceramic bio rings and carbon bag. I didn't use the carbon and for turtles most likely would not use the rings but add 2 more sponges. They never need to be replaced ( at least mine never wore out in years of use) and a quick rinse and squeeze is all it takes to clean them, if they get loud or loose their power all you have to do is remove the motor and pull out the impeller and use a small brush or q-tip to clean the gunk out of the impeller well and reassemble and they work like new again. I never had one fail me. If I ever got into fish again I would definitely have Aqua-Clear filters again!!

I honestly can't think of the brand names and neither can Jack. It totally depends on the size of your tank and the depth of your water. Our musk turtles have a pretty small filter but we're not happy with it so we're planning on buying a new one. The YBS has a HUGE filter that just about does the trick, but we're not happy with her tank at all it could be a lot better (the tank and the filter). Turtles produce tons of waste so you have to have a filter that filters three times as much of the water you have. If you can find out how many gallons you have in your tank then just get a filter which can filter that much per hour. Also what we find is like super useful, we feed our turtles outside of their enclosures, this helps reduce waste a lot. The turtles get pellets, krill and fruit n veggies etc etc but they tend to avoid the pellets (like birds ) and they sink to the bottom, they then break up and go everywhere and get all smushy. If you feed your RES in a small box or something or even a spare tank or something similar then it really does make life much more easier and your water stays far clearer and fresher for longer. You can also get some decent water conditioners designed for turtle water

Jenny, I wish you could get him, that would be really cool! Especially as they're willing to give him to you.

Thanks everybody

I think canister filters are very powerful also and would be a good choice , but can't recommend a brand name as I have never had one. I also believe they are fairly expensive tho.

Right now I am using one of the ZooMed canister filters for turtles, I'm trying to find a very large powerful filter. But most are too pricy for my budget right now.

Thanks, Daisy! That was last year - they have since closed shop and gone back down to Ft Lauderdale. Dunno whatever happened to the little guy If I could have taken him, I would. I had permission to bring him home, but there's no way I could ever fit him in my apartment in AZ comfortably so it wasn't fair to him
