Wow....really?????

I am a member of several different bird forums, besides this one. I enjoy all of them tremendously. But really???? I got reprimanded by one of the mods (on another forum) because of the "tickers" I have in my siggy showing my fids b-days. They said that I was advertising and it was not allowed and I was "lucky" she wasn't giving me an infraction because it was the holidays. I apologized and told them I was NOT trying to advertise anything but b-days of my fids. Sheesh......made me feel like an axe murderer or something! Do any mods here have a problems with us having "tickers" on our siggys? I don't want to be difficult and I do want to follow forum rules....I just didn't realize that it was considered advertising.

I'm not bothered by tickers personally. In fact, I really like some of them. But I can also see a forum's policy on no advertising period. That being said, I think the situation could have been handled a bit more graciously unless you're a wild child or rebel on that forum! lol

I am the same on that forum as on this one and the others. I am no more extreme there than here. I thought it was harsh too. Made me feel like a kid getting in trouble. I would have gladly removed it if the subject had been brought to my attention, but it wasn't. Instead I am "lucky" not to get a reprimand.....I am 43 years old, I do not need reprimands, just discuss the "problem" with me. I can understand if there are ongoing problems with someone but SHEESH! Thank you for letting me keep my tickers on this forum.

I've seen them on this forum and also on Talk Parrotlets and never had a problem with them. I'm only one day old, moderator-wise, so not sure yet what the rules are. I would think one of the mods would have said something by now if it wasn't allowed. One of the other mods will probably check in soon and let us all know.

That's ridiculous in my opinion. But I know what you mean, I left one of my favorite bird forums because some of the members were causing trouble. That's why I love this forum so much, the people are nice and the rules are fair.

I can see where it's technically advertising, as the tickers link to where you created them but it's not like you're promoting them for your own gain. I've never seen them that way. I can't speak for the whole team, but I see no problem with them and no one has had a problem with them on the Linnie forum either, and we're much more strict about advertising there than here. And yes, I have one too hahaha so I guess that's proof positive it's not an issue, huh?

I apologize for my rant, I just basically wanted to know if the tickers were ok here or not. I don't want to make any waves. It was not this forum that I had the problem with and I don't think it would be gracious (or allowed) to mention their name......Thank everyone for the support

I'm with everyone else, I don't see a problem with it personally. Unless Dave or Nick says otherwise, I'd say it's fine.

I didnt mean you were extreme. I meant thier treatment of the situation extreme. Really, what are you advertising, the age of your birds? I went to another forum (wondering if it was the same one) and if you questioned anything that was done you were blocked. I agree with you on being upset.Id be fuming.

Thank you everyone for your support. I thought maybe I over reacted by getting angry....I didn't say anything negative to them about it, I apologized for my faux pasI thanked them for letting me know there was a problem.....they removed the tickers before they gave me a chance to though. And they didn't call me out in public, I got a PM from the mod.....

To me, it's not the fact that they don't allow it that's the problem, it's the way they handled it. Mods are there to keep the peace and enforce rules, yes, but it's also a customer service position - the forum members are our "customers" and you keep the place alive and running. So yes, we need to enforce the rules, but we also need to keep you all happy and be courteous about it ourselves. I'll never understand places, both forums and stores, which treat their customers like they just don't matter or have no consideration for how their actions affect others
