Oh congrats! I once had braces, and did quite litterally everything you weren't supposed to do without problem! (Not advised!) It was a nightmare at first though. I had to go back several times the first night. Everything was perfect after that.

Well, congrats, Abby!

I had braces for a year, when I was 12 (back in the stone ages of 1957 ), and in those days, they didn't worry about pain or discomfort at all. I'd go once a month to have the wires replaced and tightened, and then for 3-4 days, the inside of my mouth would be all cut up from the wires -- I still have scar tissue inside my mouth! Got me over being afraid of a dentist, any dentist! I used to call my orthodontist "Hitler" (behind his back)!

Anyway, congrats, take good care of those teeth! They should last a lifetime!

Oh boy do I remember those days! Like Jo Anne, I had the old kind with the bands around every tooth and had to wear them for 5 miserable years! LOL Huge congratulations, Abby! I know you must be ready to celebrate, chew gum, and other fun stuff. LOL

Heck I didn't listen to the rules, haha! I still chewed gum. I was really lucky; I only had them on for a year and a half. Still, it feels wonderful to have them off!

I actually hardly go to the dentist. Eeek! My teeth are fine but I have one gap. Other than that they're okay. The bottom is very straight. You've seen me on skype anyways! They're not bad haha. My Jack had his off a few weeks ago and I hate his retainer! Anyways congrats!

I've had the retainer a day, Daisy, and I already hate it. It sticks ton the top of your mouth and holds onto your teeth. It's giving me a headache. Then again, everything gives me a headache. I've been eating all day long for an excuse to not have to wear the thing. I don't want my teeth to shift, and I guess it's better than braces, but still, sixth months of wearing this thing nonstop is going to stink.

Ugh..I HATE MY RETAINER!! I had to wear it fir a year. All day long >

It's fine to leave it out for a few hours but out of your mouth for more than two, you can feel them moving.. Especially when you try to put you retainer in and it doesnt fit :0

Lol oh and don't worry they are very strong the one I've been wearing for a year now has been stepped on and even run over by a 4X4 huge truck!! And it's still in mint condition

Argh! Jack's gotta have a check up in six months but I dunno what they'll do next. My friend had her braces on 18 months and her retainers she still has on 3 years later!

Retainers are often a many year thing - wear them all day, every day. Then you just wear them at night. Then you just wear them a few nights a week... They told me, after braces and retainer, that I should wear the retainer one night a week until I finished college. I was 16? I didn't do it. I was all "pffft, I'm so DONE with that! Don't care!"

I will say though - put up with it. My bottom teeth are crooked now and my top teeth have a very small gap between my front two. No one notices but me but it really ticks me off lol. My parents were so irritated when they noticed my bottom teeth were crooked - they had spent thousands of dollars on my teeth being straight and I threw it all away basically. Also, because I didn't do it, I have jaw problems which would have been prevented if I had just worn the stupid retainer like I was supposed to. I have TMJ, meaning my jaw doesnt line up properly and causes pain. If I had done what I needed, it would have delayed it for a few more years. Now the only way to fix it is an expensive surgery requiring my jaw to be wired shut - not happening!

Moral of the story - wear that retainer, girl! "Grandma Jenny" has spoken!
