Can you meet with both, get a feel for their personalities, and choose from there?

The advantage to the older male is no hormonal teenage phase, no egg laying, and a set, consistent personality.

The baby is impressionable, more potential to bond quickly, but will go through a nippy teenage phase. As a female, you will have to be careful she doesn't get nesty/broody and lay eggs on you.

Hmm this is hard.. Like jenny said, I would meet with them both and see which one you connect with more.

The female baby would more likely bond with you. But you may have to worry about her being hormonal

And the male , your just going to have to see what his personality is like..

I've pretty much repeated what everybody else said but they are right.. It all depends

Go with the one you feel most connected too.
you won't make the wrong decision

also does the male cockatiel come with its cage??

If he does I would go with him. Having a cage he is already comfortable with may help him settle in faster

AAAAANNND do you already have a unoccupied cage for your awaiting new friend?

Sorry for all the questions LOL

Ooh that BIG cage might come in handy.. I don't know if I've said this before but I think that cockatiels cage is the same cage as my conures

On Saturday or Sunday .. Remember that flea market I mentioned a few months ago? I think they are still doing the pet sale there.. They have tons of bird cages and toys. I think I'm going to check it out my self

It is a hard desicion!!! They are both gorgeous birds! How do you know the baby is female? All young cockatiels look like females until their first moult, thats when male greys moult in the yellow face mask and moult out the tail bars, this happens between 6-12 months. I hope all goes well with your visit with Motor See what his personality is like and how well he does with strangers. Motor is not THAT old lol considering cockatiels can live upwards of 15-20 years with good care.

Keep a look out on kijiji.ca as sometimes I see awesome used cages for super cheap on there!

Here is an add for the exact same cage http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/c-pets-bir...AdIdZ339670526

They are selling it for 225 but I think the re sale price would be atleast 300. It's a very good cage

Keep looking on kijiji I got ice's cage for $50!!!

Does anybody know what brand this cage is?? I've looked EVERYWHERE and cannot find it on the web

I would get tha adult. I find it that babies always have a easier time finding a home and adult animals are often overlooked because people feel that they wont be as good of a pet.
I got both my tiels when they were babies and they both went through a difficult period, will look for a older tiel next time. My other pets (the cockatoo, dog and three bunnies) all have been adopted when they were adults.

also 1 month is too young to be away from the nest... he or she looks older, so theyre not telling the right age, and there is no way to tell the gender at that age.

i would go with the older one.

I think I'd go for the older male too. He'll be past the terrible twos, no worries about egg binding, etc.

Also, I don't know if it matters to you, but I believe that in Cockatiels, only the males learn to talk.

Plus, he's just darn handsome!

Good luck!

another thing, you said on TC that this lady with the baby isnt telling the full truth as shes had the same photos in the ad posted a few months ago as well for the same baby. thats not that trustworthy. something is up with that. go for the older one, hes got many, many years left. hes past that horrible teen stage that a lot of males tend to go through quite badly, and he sounds like a better call than the other one.

just if the lady isnt telling the full truth, theres chance of illness or problem shes going to be hiding. besides, if shes saying 1 month old, which even if its not the true age, thats a poor breeder. a good breeder will not sell a baby under weaning age. weaning age in cockatiels is 8 weeks, but some take as long as 10-12 weeks! so 4 weeks (1 month) is far too young... even if he is older, shes saying she'd go and sell an unweaned baby. not a trustworthy breeder, not a trustworthy source. you could be asking for trouble.

Oh wow I didn't see the age on the baby.

The older cockatiel seems like a better choice.
Comes with a cage toys.. Already over the "teen years"

Good luck and keep us posted on the visit
I can't wait to see the outcome
