Well that's a bit annoying

I was a little bit confused by this.

I have an ad up for two of my baby budgies from last year on preloved for sale. I wanted them to be mature before I sold them on so I could be sure that their new owners wouldn't breed them together. They ARE male and female but they're siblings.

I thought that my price was very resonable, 10 each! They're lovely little babies.

I got one reply, in like a week

Here's what it said:

HELLO WOULD CONSIDER FREE TO AS GOOD HOME IM WANTING THEM FOR MY WIFE WE ALREADY HAVE A HUGE CAGE I UNDERSTAND IF U DNT SO IF URE INTERESTED PLEASE EMAIL ME BACK THANKX

I'm a bit confused, because I did say they were for sale. I'm trying to save up all of the money I can do, for my holiday and my macaw, so any bit of money will help me a lot.

I don't even know if I should reply to that. It's made me feel bad. I mean they say they have a big cage and stuff for them but I was really hoping they would go to an aviary for breeding where they could be with a bunch of other budgies.

What would you do?

The broken english makes me think it's a scam, but they do seem knowledgeable... Ask him if he's willing to negotiate? Meet you half way?

I thought that too Jenny, I'm really unsure though. I believe it is a scam, or somebody wanting free birds to sell on. I get it a lot. I only sell to genuine people. They had me number and could of called me about it but they haven't. I really hope they do call, so I can see what the deal is. A lot of people 'beg' for free parrots

Just my opinion but I wouldn't respond to them myself. I don't think it's totally legit.

I really hate everytime you try to sale anything, you start receiving scams. I sell on ebay (not birds of course) and it's just as bad

I don't think you should contact them at all, or even discuss with them if they call. This sounds like a scam and you don't want your birds to go to a bad place. The right person will come along if you take your time.

Remember, there are all kinds of nuts out there!

we have a lot of people like that on kijiji asking for free birds and parrots for free with the same wording almost.

ive heard some horror stories about people doing that for kittens then feeding kittens to their pythons.. i just wouldnt trust them.

I wouldn't even reply.

If I ever sell any of mine if the first message I get sent is can they have it for free or whats the least I'd take for them I tell them to jog on or ignore them.

There is a price there for a reason and I always state no offers.

Out of interest what are the colours of them and do you have any pictures?

I see 'free macaw' a lot haha!

Casey, I can't believe ANYBODY would ever do that!!! That is horrific! Never ever ever fed live food. A lot of people say I should feed my young quail to Chalkie but I could never ever do that.

Amelia, I don't blame you! I have some really bad pictures of them taken on my iPod from a few nights ago while it was dark so I had very little light. They were in the show boxes at the time but I still couldn't get a good picture on there

I'm glad you posted here first. Sometimes words seen from an "outsiders" (our members) point of view makes everything look clearer. It's a shame, but you just can't trust anyone any more!

Back in my younger days (the stone ages), we used to say "you've got to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince" -- this related to dating, but can also relate to selling stuff on line! Good luck - you'll find your prince!

They are gorgeous

I'm after clearwings for my breeding at the moment though otherwise I'd have been tempted

If I sell mine to people I don't know I won't give out my address to them I give them a postcode or arrange to meet them and have them follow me back, only when they are near do I give out the full address and I always take theirs and phone numbers and full names first, genuine people won't mind but it just helps weed out the ones who are trying to pull a fast one, I won't hold any back either without a deposit and even then give a timescale of when they are to have collected by and if they don't I will re-advertise them.

I can't believe the amount of people wanting free parrots that MUST come with cage?! Really?! If they can't afford to even get a cage how the heck can they afford a parrot?

You are so right Jo Anne, you can't trust anybody anymore and that includes your family. It's really sad. At least you can trust your birds and pets.

They're super pretty Daisy.

I hope you can find them good homes, the guy who emailed you sounds like a scam, unless you talk to him on the phone or in life

They could still be a problem then though I don't want them to put me or my birds in danger. I HATE having people come to my house for whatever reason. I try not to tell people I keep birds, ESPECIALLY Chalkie. If somebody stole him I'd go on a man hunt. Not kidding
