My Sister brought a friend over today!

As the title says, I was at my brothers panel shop/body shop today, we had just finished the repairs to my sisters Toyota 4X4, so she came to pick him up and brought a friend so I thought I would share

Well, the first surprise was Mum came with her, now I must explain that my sister Penny and mum live about 3 hours away and the best I can travel is about 30 minutes in my modern car and about 45 to an hour in the Hot Rod (1936 Dodge) so when I get to see them it's really special.

Now I think I have mentioned my sister is a volunteer for WIRES (Wildlife Rescue) as I was before the neck thing.

Oh yes, the friend.

I did mention that she brought a friend right, didn't I..

Well here he is

He's so very, very cute and a total nut case! So full of energy, runs around like a cat and jumps you like a Ninja too! Thankfully the teeth are not too sharp... YET.....

Oh how cute! What is it though? I haven't a clue. Looks like a wombat, koala and a Tasmanian devil in one haha!

At this age they are very soft, almost rabbit like but the fur is rather short, the claws on the other hand are VERY, VERY long! This little rascal climbed up my leg for more cuddles, so much for the theory that they can't climb!!! They can also swim and swim well.
Sadly they are still hunted or killed as vermin, farmers think their crops are more valuable to mother Earth! Total lack of education is a major factor here as sure they may damage crops a bit but it's the feral rabbits that do the real damage! Foxes and Rabbits, like most introduced species, have adapted to our country all too well and have caused so much damage to our local native species.

Sorry, rant off

Jess, how do you mean it was at an auction?

I was out "Tin hunting" (looking for old cars and parts) out in the bush many years ago and when we moved a car we decided to take from a dump we found a wombat had made a home under it.
So we spent a whole day to take off all the parts we needed and put it back. Same when we were out looking for Brown, Black and Tiger snakes, most of the time we were just counting numbers for the rangers, if I could turn back time

I watched a lot of Steve Irwin and.he said a lot about introduced species and pets dogs and cats.
Did you know in his biography he said he was only afraid of parrots, as they'd take a chunk out of you
For no reason!
That wombat looks gorgeous!
I really must visit Aus one day. I'd love to see all those amazing animals and obviously parrots.

I loved seeing Steve when he was playing with the red tailed black cockatoos. They don't look big in pics but they're HUGE! I read a tribute book to him a few weeks ago that Jack got from the college library for me. It broke my heart seeing the pictures of Bindi reading out her speech for him

Same with kangaroos makes me angry that people kill them

Oh Red tailed Cockatoo's are AWESOME! we have a pair visit us each year around this time of the year. We also get MASSIVE flocks of Rosella's and Rainbow Lorri's dining on our flowering gum trees.

It's awesome, though the noise is rather deafening

I knew Steve well when we were both so much younger and even though we hadn't really spoken in many years we were good with the irregular emails typical blokes!

The day he passed I went into hibernation for a week or so, it was as it something had ripped out part of my soul! Totally on par with when I lost my father a few years back.

He was an amazing guy, what you saw on TV was exactly how he was and no matter how down you felt within minutes you would be on par with him

Kate, welcome anytime

It's funny,
you kinda rooted for him to get bit, but didn't want it to be serious.
we have Steve Backshaw who's kinda in the same vein!
He picked up a chicken spider in the rain forest.
This is a spider that eats chickens!
He said ' if this bites me I'm dead, there's no help out here!!!!'
Madness complete madness!
mind you if I saw a spider half that size I'd be halfway across the continent before they stopped me!!!
It was awful when Steve passed on.
My kids watch Bhindi's show on tv.
I get 'mum, can we get on of those?'
My husband just shouts NO!
little does he know the plans for the garden.
as soon as I can afford the tree cutting down!
sorry off topic again!

Bindi has a show?! Didn't know that.

I love Steve B. His documentaries are really good!
