umm I fell in love by accident today

Hello All

My nanday conure died yesterday, as I've mentioned several times today since I am reaching out to you guys as my support in this. My friends really aren't bird people.

The UPS driver I see at my work all the time told me he saw him birds at the little pet store in my town. I prefer to deal with breeders not pet stores, I didn't even realize there was a pet store there, it's brand new. But he said I should stop in and look at the birds.

Well it was less than a block from my work so I walked in.

There. Right by the front door, standing on top of his cage was the most adorable green cheek I have ever seen.

There's a sign under him that says "Do not touch, I bite"

Well, the girls at the store told me he was mean and horrible and they didn't even think he was for sale (no price tag).

We fell in complete love, he was flirting with me and sitting on my shoulder, dancing to disco music in the store and acting like a complete sweetheart.

He looks healthy and I'm going to have to think about this, but seriosuly, we were like a perfect match.

Anyway, I told the girls at the store to keep telling people he's mean and not for sale so that he'll still be there in a few days. He is for sale actually, and not a bad price. I know its a crappy pet store, but he clearly isn;t getting the treatment he deserves and I persoanlly was looking for an adult bird, not a baby, and maybe even a rescue. He was bitey, but manageanble.

Sometimes it works out that way. I had been thinking I'd like another bird. I had a spare cage about cockatiel size. Well, we had gone to Trader's Village, which is like a large flea market with permanent structures. Anyway, I was looking for a bigger cage for my linnies when we stopped in the space run by a local bird shop. This shop cares for their birds and treats them like they should, but their prices are about double what you can get stuff elsewhere.

To make a long story short they had a sennie and as soon as I picked her up it was love at first site. I had never considered a senegal, but she came home with me that day. Sammie is doing her best to eat my laptop while I type this

So, I say, go for it!

Yes people that don't have birds don't understand our grief. So sorry for your loss. Sometimes a new pet is a good thing, it doesn't replace the one you lost but it helps heal your heart alittle.

The exact same thing happened to me at a over priced store that takes excellent care of their babies.....a handfed budgie. Something that wasn't even in my top 5 birds to own. She is a great little bird and very friendly from the beginning. Everytime I take her for wing clips people always comment on how great she is. One person in offered me all her budgies for my one sometimes it is just meant to be.
