Full spectrum lighting

I ordered a bulb for Sammie and I was wondering how many hours of the day should I have it on over her cage? I figure I'll put it on a timer.

This article has time amounts of exposure based on size. I referenced this when setting mine up.

Sammie is a senegal. This light isn't for the linnies. The linnies and finches are by a window. Sammie is in a part of the living room that isn't near a window.

I keep my full spectrum lights on inside my cages all day. However, the cage doors are open so the birds can choose where they want to perch....inside or outside the cage. I use a timer too and find that helpful.

BTW, window glass supposedly screens out some of the sun's light spectrum so birds don't get the full benefit of the sun by sitting in front of a window. That's why so many avian vets recommend the full spectrum bulbs for all indoor birds.

We keep the windows open when the weather is nice. It's about the right time for open windows here.
