grey making strange noise.

hi all,i have a question to ask and its about my African grey parrot, she is 24 weeks old and I have had her since she was 17 weeks old. She settled in very quickly and seemed to be coming on just fine and starting to learn a few things as well but all of a sudden when I get her out she sits near me or jumps on my shoulder and keeps giving of a low screech tilting her head back and shaking her wings, now to me it seems like she's wanting me to feed her as I have seen other young birds do this in aviary's. Any advice would be helpful as am not sure if there's something wrong or something can be done to stop her doing it.many thanks. PS there's now a video added click the link.

well I think she is as she has her seed daily and fruit and veg and at 24 weeks she should be fully weaned. Also she has only just started doing this in the last few days surely she would have been doing this from the start not after 5ish weeks???

She's a new bird and young birds can regress. I would hand feed her until she stops begging for it

Make some type of mush and feed her a bit out of a spoon in the morning and the evening.

you can fix some oatmeal up no butter or salt but you can add a little cinnamon or fruit in it

to be honest i do not know what rusks is but when you feed just use a spoon and i would only do it when she begs like that my cockatiel actually done this but i just feed her chop by hand i would give her a piece she would eat some then ask for more she does not do it any more

ok thanks guys but I think this is a bit more than what I first thought, am so worried now I fed her when I got her out but she just keeps making this dull screeching sound I feel so bad I want to help but don't know what to do for the best I feel so upset. I have put her back in her cage and she seems fine but I just feel something is wrong.

Do you see her eating a lot on her own during the day? My new cockatiel just did this for like 3 weeks after I got her but she is now finally not making that begging noise anymore and becoming much more independent (and is a little piggy eater now!) so it might just be a phase. Definitely get her checked out, or at least call an avian vet to speak to them about it if you are worried her health may be at risk.

hi all and thanks for your help/advice, she eats fine in the day I see her eating her fruit in the morn and seed in the day so I know she's not hungry, this sound has only come about in the last few days I don't think her health is at risk I just think she craves my attention. She makes the sound when I go to her cage or when she sits at the side of me when out of her cage?????? I will keep an eye on things and see how we go and thanks again.

It sounds like she's just making baby noises to me. Abby had a baby grey who she hand reared so maybe she could chime in when she sees this

Yep, sounds like a baby asking for momma to come and make things right (babies are never alone in nature).

i agree sounds like she is just making baby sounds dusty my grey done this with his first home. a man had bought him and brought him back to the breeder because he would not stop making this sound. which makes me happy because he came home with me he was 9 mths when i got him so i did not get to hear or see his baby sounds and actions but he is still my baby. you have a very sweet and pretty baby
