Any differences between

A store bought bird and a breeder bird (like one from a breeder)?
I think there about the same since I got Diego from a breeder and I got Pearly from a pet store and there both hand tame. There Isn't a difference I don't think. Is there a difference?

Yes, there is a difference, depending on what store you buy them from. If you are talking about a store like Petsmart, most of their birds are not hand tame and a lot of them come from mills. A good majority of birds from breeders are hand tame and a lot healthier. But if you don't mean a store like Petsmart, for instance, if you mean (in my case) the Bird Farm, then there probably isn't much difference.

I got my Pearly from pets supplies plus they said they were hand fed and she has a legband.

The problem with pet stores is that you may never quite know where the bird has come from unless they can tell you. If you meet a breeder face to face and see the conditions they're kept in you know whether it is good or bad. A lot of stores DO sell fantastic birds though! Don't get me wrong

That is true. Like for instance, Rosco. He was a sweetie! Very healthy and active and very tame. I got him from Pet Supplies Plus!

It depends on the store and the breeder - the store I worked at? Our birds were far more socialized and used to different things, people, and foods than any breeder in the area. Other stores? Not so much. Nothing beats a GOOD store for a well socialized bird - breeders just can't expose them to as many different people and things as a shop can. However, a private breeder is better than a store more often than not in my experience

My birds all come from a really good bird specialty shop where they hand feed the babies for you and you visit and play with and socialize them until they are ready to go home. Therefore, they are great. I couldn't be with a bird like that if a breeder were raising it.

However, not all pet stores raise their birds in this way.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

I agree with Jenny!

I don't get to spend all of my time with my baby birds but I have been able to with some, that's only bc if I want a bird, and it's not in my city or province, I will ship it in...that's just how bad I want them. I won't buy a bird from a bird shop or store.

I get a lot of my birds from a garden store near mine, the birds all come from a breeder who is local to me and the birds are always in great condition I really want to ship birds over here nanay. I don't know many breeders over here of pretty odd species so sometimes shipping seems to be the best option. I REALLY want a toucan or hornbill!

You always hear me talking about the Bird Farm! Well, that's of course where I get my birds, unless I find a rehome. (like Min!)

I don't know if you would call 6 free budgie a rehome but I got 6 free before and my one flight cage is the cage the came in. And my freckles was a rehome.
