Bird people problems

I thought this would be a fun thread-post your personal "Bird people problems," or funny/frustrating things that are unique to being a bird owner. I myself don't really have any "Bird people problems" but I figured most of you would be happy to share!

Hi Brett,

Like you, I don't really have any bird people probems either, but I thought I'd reply and let you know anyway.

Cheers,

John.

Be beautifully kind, nooooo biting!
I have to say this sentence several times a day when Paulchen (blue) becomes cage agressive.

I think that's a part of parrot education that most parrot keepers share.

My guys are currently more aggressive because I have to feed proteins for Janosch's blood protein results were too low.

I think most people I know think I am weird cuz I have birds period, lol. Most people here aren't bird owners. I currently only have two friends that have pet birds and then my sister and that is it. My dad has aviary birds. Aside from that, no else has birds that I personally know. That is why I love all the online groups. I wish there were some local groups.

My problem was convincing my hubby I needed another bird. I have a parrotlet and a lineolated parakeet. After a year I told Bert I thought Levi looked bored and would be happier with another linnie. Finally after 6 months he said yes I got Skyler, another boy because I didn't want babies. Well Levi and Skyler don't like each other. And still I had the feeling Levi looked bored. SO I convinced Bert into letting me get a female for Levi. Well it took a few months for Levi and Karma to like each other enough to share one cage, and are happy I may add. Luckily Karma and Skyler don't like each other. hubby said no more birds. Now Skyler is calling out I think for a mate. Well again I told Bert Skyler is looking for a companion. So finally, with Skyler's help I must say yes! I will be getting my LAST linnie just waiting for her to be born, my close friend is the breeder

owned by linnies: Levi, Skyler Karma, and Bindi

Can't take vacations with my husband.
Can't go anywhere that takes more than 2 hour drive during the winter.
Can't have people over the entire winter.
Need to be up at 4:30 am during the summer (when I don't even work!)
Need to be home before sunset every single day of my life.
Can't food shop in one place (I need to go to three different ones)
And I am sure there are more (especially if you ask my husband -LOL)

I completely agree!! I feel like people either really like birds or they hate them, there's really no grey area like there are with other pets (like: I like dogs, but I just don't have one yet). I feel like I have to defend myself sometimes because I enjoy having birds as pets. I also appreciate my friends who support my love

Bird People Problems:
-check your shoulders for poops before you leave the house
-having to lock yourself in a room upstairs so you can have a phone conversation without hearing a jungle in the background
-eating a meal without a feathered creature helping themselves to your plate
-never having clean floors for more than an hour

that's all I've got for now

Yeah I think dogs are universally excepted as almost human by everyone, lol. As far as, cats people also seem to love them or hate them...not for me at ALL btw. Lol. But unlike cats, most people haven't even interacted with a bird before not really entertaining the idea of one. People usually decide they hate cats after having one, lol. And birds are way better than cats! No offense anyone who loves cats. I think what I have noticed about birds is that people are just scared of them and don't know how to touch/handle them, etc. Maybe because they don't want to get bit and also because they are scared of how fragile they are. I think most people also do really knowing how loving they can be as pets.

I think vacationing for dog owners is harder than bird owners. They can't be left alone at all, even for a day due to having to be fed and let out too potty etc. PETSITTERS ARE GREAT! I hired one last time and they fed and watered everyone and walked my dogs twice a day. Best part was no one had to leave home.

I miss candles in my home. Can't have them any more because of my fids. I also miss my picture frames, LOL. All chewed up. But that's about it. There are so many good things about owning a bird, really, they are awesome pets. No bad smell or shedding, no expensive grooming (like some dogs), no daily walks in rain or snow, and they can be just as affectionate and smart as any dog. Don't get me wrong, I love my dog, but I never knew birds could be so awesome.
