Be aware of scam on Gumtree

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I just thought I'd make people aware of this.

I've advertised my Ringneck on Gumtree as I'm looking to rehome her and the next morning I received a text from someone named Kay, telling me to e-mail them to arrange to sell my bird. I went ahead and e-mailed this morning and received this in reply:

Thank for your mail.I would like you to know that i am really interested in buying it,i will like to add 50 and price for you to keep off from all offer, and consider it sold to me alone as i am serious with this.I would like you to know that am really interested in buying this for my daughter and son,However, I will not be able to come for inspection, all i need is your word of sincerity that the it is in good health as described online please let me know if you accept my offer?? And payment will be through PayPal and the pick up will be arranged by me as i will have my agent come down to pick it up.I will be waiting to hear from you,and i will like you to send me the Name and email address on the PayPal account to send the payment and send me more pics of it,if available since i would not be seen it in person, so i can pay it right away I am a busy at work and do not have much time around me.Make sure you get back to me so that we can arrange for the payment and pick up as i will like to be picked at your residence,so no shipping..hope you have a PayPal Account kindly send me your PayPal Email and Your Full Name so the payment can be made right away.i will be waiting to hear from you.

Thanks and reply asap.

It raised alarm bells immediately as it doesn't sound right so I went on google to do some research into possible scams. I've found a few examples of this person doing the same thing with other items and the people who've sold never receiving any money for their goods. They use different forms of the e-mail address [email protected]. It's to do with fraudulent payments on paypal that they'll claim back after they've received the item.

Please be aware when selling birds or other things on gumtree. Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, both sellers and buyers and to be watched out for. Indian ringnecks and Alexandrines are the WORST in the UK right now for being messed around

A lot of the 'tame baby already talking birds' are just females who have had their wings butchered in order to dominate them and get them to sit on them for photos. It's horrific. I just wish people would stop using animals as a way of making money. I breed and sell birds but I don't see a penny of the money myself, it all goes right back into vets bills, food etc.
