Tom and Alfie

So as you guys know I took in a pair of male budgies who I called Tom and Alfie, I had them for free with their cage and everything, though that wasn't a lot at all.
When I first got them, Alfie had a pretty bad wing (he looked as if he'd had his wings clipped on the one side) but now the feathers and everything has grown back and he is super fit! He's gotten so fast since it grew back. But now it seems as though now he can fly he wants nothing to do with me never mind hmm. And because he wants nothing to do with me Tom doesn't either. If Alfie takes of Tom follows him and I have them circling around the room. They don't like to be picked up any more now they're in the huge cage and they don't want any company from me.
They seem to (since they've started flying loads) really upset Joey as they're always whizzing around him. Joey is so nice and calm, and he gets knocked around with those guys. Joey is also getting very annoyed at having to share his food with them. When they get their morning feed Joey runs over to the bowl and waits for me to put it in. The budgies sit by him waiting for their share, but he tries to eat as fast and as much possible to avoid them taking his food
I don't think it's fair on Joey now to have them bugging him all the time, he clearly wants his space and I feel pretty bad for him. At first the tolerated them very well and seemed to enjoy having somebody to comfort him, but he's made it pretty clear it is only me he wants to be around he seemed to get along with them fine at the time though, sigh

So I came to the hard but wise decision of rehoming Tom and Alfie. I would have kept them to breed off them but in my own home I currently have 2 breeding pairs of budgies, a breeding pair of bengalese finches, a breeding pair of zebra finches, a breeding pair of diamond doves and a breeding pair of red-fronted kakarikis. I would like to breed off them, but I only have one more breeder cage available now, so that would mean one would have to go anyways and I know for a fact I don't want them to be separate from each other. So they guy who I go to the auctions with every Monday said he would be very happy to take them and has plenty of females in his large flock to pair up with them. His aviary is very beautiful and contains budgies only. I think they're really going to like it there. I would rather them be there in a large flock of budgies than in my cage with a grouchy cockatiel. Yes I do have other cages but they appear to be getting pretty frustrated with not only the cockatiel but with each other. I believe they really want to breed and that it is best for them. I also have all my breeding cages at my uncles full, so that is not an option. The plus side is the guy only lives about a 5 minute walk away from my house so I'm always welcome to go over and check up on them

I am very sad to see them go, but it is definitely for the best

It is not through any fault of their own!

yup! And my tiel has a pretty short fuse, if it's something he doesn't like then he really dislikes it

I'm happy to hear that you found a good situation for the budgies and that you can still visit them. It seems the best of both worlds.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

I have no idea. Budgie breeder males if in an aviary with more than one female often mates with 2 females (sometimes MORE!!) And still manages to raise their chicks!

Right then, Dave came and picked them up about 10 minutes ago, I wasn't expecting him to come so soon for them, I thought I had until the end of the week but hey, they've gone now I do miss them already but I know they'll be really happy having some lucky ladies. I wish them all the best
