How long have you been living with birds?

Just wondering how long has everyone had birds for?
I got my first birds from my dad's friend, it was a old budgie and an old cockatiel living together in a tiny cage. I was 10 at the time and over the years i had more budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, canaries and the cockatoo.
So all together I have been living with birds for 24 years and had over 20 birds.

Cockatiels - Jackie and Tiko
Goffin's cockatoo - Hootie

Wow, I feel SO OLD LOL.

I've only been keeping birds for about a year, but I've loved them from afar all my life (I'm 25). So finally I decided, hey, I'm an adult, I can get a bird if I want one!

And I did!

Snoopy and I lol unfortunately, she passed away when I was 9 years old, we never knew why. We waited a few months and then went to a cockatiel breeder's house - I wanted a white faced male, my mom wanted an albino female... so we got both! Coco and Peekaboo, Moose's parents We had them for a few years and they were mating like crazy so we decided to give them a nest box and co-parent the babies, my mom wanted us kids to experience it. We let them have 2 clutches? Moose was from the first clutch

I have had birds on and off ( mostly on) for around 40 years.. my first was a very tame budgie that was given to us because the owners were in the Canadian air force and were transferred from Moose Jaw Sask. to some where in Ont... we only had her a few months and then we were transferred twice as far... we took her with us...lol. Her cage was hung in our camper van and she flew around while were were driving... mostly sat on my Dad's shoulder while he drove... then she got shooed into her cage when we stopped and locked in while we were out and about. She learned very quickly when we stopped she was to go home and even if we stopped at a stop sign she would fly into her cage..lol She was about 6 when we got her and we musta had her a good 10 years... she was my 1st of many birds.

Aero was first bird Ive ever owned, Ive had her for 7 months now. I loved having her so much I rushed out like 2 months after I got her and got a flight cage and Cupid
But my parents did have a cockatiel when I was little, named Pretty Boy. I dont remember much about him though.

I know its a terrible cage and all, but blame my parents for that one lol

That looks almost exactly like Snoopy's cage! Hers was just in white! That's too funny. Crud cage, but that's what people used at the time

My mother always had a bird or 2 when I was growing up. Usually a Parakeet, but I have vivid memories of some beautiful sounding Canaries also. I am 54, so birds have always been a big part of my life. I have had them off and on for many years. A cockatiel was my first, I think I had him for 10 years, I had a pair of Nandays for 8 years or so, Parrotlets (not a fan), my beloved Scarlet Chested, and now my equally beloved Yellow Sided.

In your profile pic Max doesnt look like a yellow sided conure, Bob. He looks like a normal greencheek

Ive had birds for three years this September.

Wasnt really a bird fan until I met an adorable parrotlet, and shortly after that conures caught my heart..... and then my husband fell in love with senegals

Thank you Daisy. I got the same thing from another forum saying Maxx was a normal not a yellow sided. I see the difference.

i think Max isnt as yellow and red as most yellow sideds I see. Could just be the line of birds isn't quite as bright as the ones around here.

That said, he is still a cutie
