My Charlie flew the coop....

I can't believe I but my Charlie flew out the back door.
I was mortified. I watched him fly into the wild and thought I would never see him again.
I live on a wild life preserve and there are many and I mean many prey birds all over here.

I was besides myself until I heard him calling to me... I ran through the hose to the front porch. He kept calling to me. I finally saw him in the very top of the Maple tree just calling out.

I went and got my binoculars to keep track of him. Like many of you we are very close and he hates when he can't see/hear me. He loves to just sit on my head.

I talked to him t he whole time calling him to come down, then I thought of something. Walk away and make him miss me.

It worked he started to come closer to me. He tried three times to land on my head but I must have been too close to the house so I moved and success...

I was so happy and relieved that he actually came back to me.... even my dog looked concerned...

OMG! I am so happy he came back! That must have been so scary.

Charly is such a beautiful parrot.
You built up a close relationship to him, he didn't want to be without you.
So it was your merit that he came back.
Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Thank you all. I did not realize what a bond we really did have. I felt he was scared and that he wanted to come back. When he did I was overcome and shed some happy/scared tears....

Wow. So glad that he came back. It must've been so hard having to walk away from him to make him follow you. Very terrifying experience. I am so happy everything worked out.

What a scary experience for both of you! It's wonderful that you have such a strong bond and that he was missing you as much as you missed him. Your quick thinking made a very happy ending. He is a beautiful bird and certainly would have been easy prey.

Well he most certainly has bonded to you! Great news on getting him back. Maybe you could work on recall with him should anything like that happen again?

thank you all for your kind words of praise a caring. He I a wonderful bird annoying at time but loving. He actually get angry if I talk to my other birds.
I will take your advise and work on recall, but I am hoping this horrible experience is never repeated.
And the walking away hoping he would follow was indeed very hard because I was afraid he might just get mad an take off. Standing there seeing the large birds circling was also scary...
