Got my GCC

I picked up my new baby on saturday afternoon. So far, so good. We haven't picked a name yet because we are getting the DNA test done. Went to the vet today and that was a disaster. The bird is fine but the vet was very pushy and reminded me of when you take your car to the garage and they try to sell you everything under the sun. I won't go into details but suffice it to say we will be finding another vet.

Anyway, the bird is very sweet. Just a bit beaky/nippy but that's typical and we can work on that. I really can't wait until it has a name though I have no ideas for names yet. My husband has been calling it Gilderoy after Kenneth Brannagh's character in the Harry Potter movie because he's a goofball. Typical green cheek I guess. Not sure if I want a bird named Gilderoy though. LOL.

We are working on step up. He/she is pretty good about it but not about coming out of the cage. It's understandable though because it's a whole new scary world right now. We need to get to know each other better.

He's a shredder. Loves the toys that he can shred. Not much of a chewer yet. Likes the parts of the perches where they attach to the cage bars too. Just like a kid who gets a great new toy and plays with the box it came in instead.

Congrats! Can't wait to see pictures, so don't forget us! Also let us know about the DNA test and then his/her name.

The first avian vet I went to with my first Parrotlet, was pushy like that, and really expensive. Kept trying to upsell me. I went to a different one when I got Libby and Angelina and have been going there ever since. He's down-to-earth about expenses, so that's great.

Thanks everyone. I will keep you updated. I may even attempt the whole posting pictures thing finally.

The upsell at the vet's was amazing! They even called after we got home to try and convince me to do more tests. My feeling was that no, I was not spending an insane amount of money on a seemingly healthy bird just because they said to. I was a vet tech for quite a few years so I have a good grasp of what is necessary. Not to mention the fact that the bird has a health guarantee and if there is a major issue the store I got the bird from will make good.

Anyway, I'm very happy the bird seems pretty social and outgoing and seems to be adjusting okay. We are going back to the store Saturday for a weigh-in to make sure she hasn't dropped too much weight. I've been watching the food bowl and I think she's eating well so we'll see what happens. The weight at the vet's was the same as it was on Saturday so I'm not worried. I'm sure she's a little stressed but at least she's bot totally traumatized by coming home.

I'm saying 'she' but I have no idea if I would prefer a boy or a girl. It doesn't matter really, I just want to know in the event it's a she and she has some girl issues later in life I'll be able to recognize that might be the problem.
