what a great day!

i started to get off topic in another one of my threads, so i am making a new thread!!

i recently started volunteering weekly at the local cat and dog shelter. they occasionally get small animals too. last week they got a quaker who i have fallen in love with! i really want to foster small animals and birds, but i don't think i will be allowed too

anyways, today one of the employees said that i can open the cage and say hi (rather than starting at him!), so i took the opportunity he was very gentle and liked kissing my hand. he was a little rough with my watch at times… he was so sweet and sometimes he would push his beak into my palm and then pull back and sing… i want too sure what that meant, probably an affectionate move the whole thing was very special to me because i have never interacted with another parrot other than a budgie (not including the time that i cuddled with a cockatoo at a fair).

i fed him some seed out of his dish and let him kiss me. he enjoyed some of the scritches too! after coming and going a few times, i did get nipped pretty good once, but it was 100% my fault. i know your not supposed to go over and just pet them, and you should let them come to you, and i knew that when i was doing it and i got what was coming to me! after that we still got along great i wish i could see him everyday!!!

Oh yes, we understand how to get along well yestersay my friend and I went back just to visit since she's home and I played with him again. I found out to make him laugh, you just have to immature his laughter and then he laughs. We were laughing and then he was laughing. What a little ham!

Quakers are definitely banned in my state. But pretty much everything is, considering. CA is nutso.

But how adorable (: I really wish I could foster parrots. My parents would be down, the neighbors probably not so much. Mine make enough noise as it is. Sounds like you had a really great experience with him though! Hope it continues between you guys. Do you have any idea why he was put up for adoption in the first place? Sounds like a pretty affectionate bird to be in that situation, poor little guy. Happy you guys found each other though, sounds like he's really benefitting from the hands on contact.

He sounds like such a sweet heart! The quaker I used to work with, Cadbury, would giggle and laugh whenever we did which would then make us laugh more and then it would end up with us all laughing at the same time for ages My aviary quakers were extremely phobic birds though, quite the contrast!

Lindsay, they posted him on their Facebook page and someone found him and brought him in. When I went in again, he doesn't have a little info card, but a paper saying that Quakers need DNA tests to tell the gender and that Quakers can like in a range of climates. He is not written on their board for Adoptables, so I'm not sure if they are waiting a while to see if his owners show up. I am seeing him again this Monday (if he's still there). One of the workers said that he bit some people who were changing his water and whatnot, and I can see why, because they are invading his space and I let him come to me

How sweet!! He sounds like he has taken to you quite well. Since he responds to you so well, I think it would benefit him to be fostered by you.

Hope you get to help this little cutie. They are not banned in my state and I have considered getting one a time or two.

at first i wasn't really a quaker person, we all have parrots with we would and wouldn't get, but i am realizing that a parrot is a parrot and i love them all he is so cheeky and he really does make my day. when it comes to this time of year, i am always in a bad mood. after seeing him i actually come home in a good mood free therapy haha

How fun for you! Our Quaker is tons of fun but can definitely be nippy. She has her own mind and will love or hate you depending on her mood and who she wants to be friends with at the moment. But I am learning that I really do like Quakers.
