Pet Box. These work with most of the birds I have moved around, But beware of those that chew. They can escape.

A shipping box for small birds. Snowy (Tiel) was flown to me in this.

My Hospital Box. I use this for moving my smaller birds back and forth to the vets.

And the Pet Carriers work very well.

These are my preferred enclosed travel arrangements.
Cages can be a worry. I advise removing all perches, and toys, anything they could get hurt on if they panic. The other thing is they could catch a wing in the bars and get hurt that way if they do panic.
My tame guys get to ride free.
I did pull over to get this shot. We were on our way to give a live display at Animates

I use a cheap ($15) bird cage from WalMart to take Byrdina to work with me daily. Food/Water dishes removed and have a rope perch in the cage. He has not discovered how to open the doors. Had to tie them shut with other birds but it is small and easy to carry.
The cage the guinea pig is in is what we originally purchased for a bird travel cage. It works but birds don't really like it.

I can't find a picture of mine but I use this one for trips (video of my cockatoo coming home in it) ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pY-q39PO4Q
For most of my birds I just use a simple cat carrier with a towel on the bottom
