Vet Checkup Tomorrow

Ive had my Red Fronted Macaw for 3 days now. I went ahead and made a vet appointment for her. We gave her a bath yesterday. After she came out of the water, she smelled real bad around the back where her tail feathers are. I mean it was pretty bad.

She has pulled most of her tail feathers out except for one. When we picked her up from her previous owner, we noticed a couple feathers at the bottom of her cage. Some had blood on the end of them.

Not taking any chances. She is doing surprisingly well for her 3rd day in a new home. I just want to make sure she is ok health wise.

Glad that you scheduled a visit to the vet for your bird as it is best to rule out any medical causes first. How old is your bird? If it might make a difference in the future this might be a good time to have a DNA sex test done, unless you are sure that she is a she. Just a thought. Let us know how the visit to the vet goes.

Everything is good. The last tail feather she had was actually broke at its base. It was definitely causing her discomfort.
She is 1 1/2 years old. The vet said she has been stressed. She drew blood. We should get blood test back in a couple of days.
Her wait was 13oz. Vet said she looked good other than the pulled feathers. I went ahead and had her beak trimmed and her talons as well.

Vet said if she didn't stop pulling her feathers, that she would put an E Collar on her.
