Question I now have a bird plus one egg

I had been noticing weight gain on Leona and she had been doing a lot of nest work… I wasn’t worried about the nesting at first because thats very normal for her. She had been somewhat hormonal lately. Then I started to connect the dots and two days ago I came to the conclusion that she was either going to lay an egg or something was seriously wrong. Ultimately the egg laying conclusion was correct and last night I found her with an egg in her box.
Now I do not know what to do with the egg. I have read a little about this situation in the past but didn’t take it too seriously until now. I am sorry that she won’t be having an actual baby since she seems so ready for one. I feel so horrible that she has this infertile egg and that it won’t hatch. I don’t even know where to start. Is breeding her an option? How do I handle this properly?

I have to be honest that I am very excited that she has laid an egg, but at the same time nervous and concerned

Make sure there is a new fresh cuttle bone and mineral block in the cage for Leona so she can gnaw on them for extra minerals and calcium. I would also buy a calcium product you can place in her water. You want any eggs she has forming in her to be solid so she can pass them well and normally, sometimes softer eggs can get stuck and bound in a birds vent causing you to have to rush it to an avian vet to get it broken and removed. The stress of this egg binding can be so hard on your bird and its stressful to yourself as you end up worried about her all the time.

I'd let her sit on the egg and let her do her thing, she will realize in a while the egg or eggs won't hatch and she will give up. Some people replace the eggs with dummy eggs you can buy in the same size as her eggs so you won't have any smelly rotten eggs, and again she will abandon them in time when she realizes they won't hatch.

Eventually her breeding condition period will lessen and she will be back to her old self and the egg stage laying will pass for some time.

Mr. Peepers already gave great advice.
It's important that Leona gets calcium in combination with vitamin D3, for example Calcivet.
During the laying period you should also feed hard boiled egg yolk.

I've had the best experience with dummy eggs. My linnie Yuki (green) brooded on them exactly 21 days which is normal for her species.
I got the impression she didn't mind that nothing hatched.
All the best for little Leona!
