Meet Tobie :)

Well for anyone who remembers my recent post about a canary wing, I ended up bringing home a second Parrotlet. I was totaly not planning in this so I'm still in shock a bit.

He had been at Petco for at least 6 months since a baby, he also went to a home once and then was returned.
I just could not bear thinking about him sitting there with no human contact, eating unhealthy seed, being grabbed, having no toys. I hate Pet stores, I went there for seed and im not allowed anymore! He was (and is) pretty scared. He has a small temporary cage right now with toys and all kinds of new things he likes and a window. Vet visit went well also. He won't step up but he did let me break open some of his many many pinnies. He was looking quite scruffy.
We Love him. Here he is! His name is Tobie..

Tobie is adorable! Those colors and markings on him are too cool, and I am jealous you have a new baby to enjoy in your life! He looks quite contented with your hand in the cage giving him a little preen I'm sure he will be eating out of your hand in no time, all the attention you are giving him will win him over quickly!

Congratulations.

Tobie is beautiful, and he seems to like you very much, you've found each other.
And your other parrotlet will be happy to meet him.

I Love him I just feel bad for him right now. I can tell it's going to take him a long time to get comfortable.
He sits like a statue. I'm not even jokeing, like 4 hours and he won't move a muscle. Around 5pm I held our some quinoa and he ate about three grains, and had some stuck on his beak. (Goofy) I had his little cage next to me by the couch. 4 hours later I put him to bed at 9pm, he is in the same exact spot and position, quinoa hanging from the beak and all.
Good grief...... My husband actually asked me if he was alive. I said "yes, he's blinking." LOL

Poor little guy, its sad he's so scared right now but that is also common when a new bird comes into your home. Give him a few more days and he'll be making more noise and moving a bit more.

He likes my female Parrotlet, he perks up quite a bit when we bring her over. at least one of the flock members makes him happy so far!

Tobie is still my little statue. Saturday is two weeks?! Oh my. Is that right? It seems like there has been almost no progress. I just hope the little guy will be happy. I do not see him preen or anything much around me but I'm sure he is more relaxed by himself, I spied on him once around the corner and he was acting more normal. Poor baby. Well.... eventually he will come around. I hope I see a change soon. He is not even interested in eating millet so I can't bribe him with anything. All I can do is sit next to him and make bird sounds.

Poor Tobie!
Perhaps you could place his cage near your parrotlet, if he likes her.
Perhaps that could help him.
Please keep us updated!

He just loves other birds. It's the only time he perks up. He's even more willing to sit on me, or preen and eat when around them.
Melody (my blue Diva) still not interested.
Soooo...... we got another bird.
I'll work together and seperate with them to keep a good bond going and I got a cage with a divider that's removable so if they bond, they can live together at some point and maybe have babies!
Anyway, this is Lilly. She's an American white, coming home in about three weeks.

GAK!

I love bb birds too. Now I want some more budgies. Lilly is so cute!

DANG IT.... I think I will have to ban any members who post about their new baby birds in the future. You are all causing me to want more birds!

Well it was a hard decision but when the breeder ended up with a Dilute Turquoise I decided to take her instead. I still feel a little bad but a Dilute Turquoise was what I was searching all over for. Still calling her Lilly. Here she is. Breeder still feels unsure about the gender because of the light violet on the rump but the wings are completely white so I'm pretty confident it's female. Also I see no eye streak.

See what happened? One bird let to another. Now I have four, that's double the flock in 2 months. Do not go into your local store for seed. Just stick to buying seed online.

I would have left with all the bb's! Have fun with your newbie.

Thank you so much. He is a very heavy pied, he looks like a little puffy cloud. My new girl Lilly is feathering in white, with yellow head and yellow/mint-ish tail with a violet back. I'll post more photos of her when she's fully feathered. There are so many mutations of Parrotlet I would like one of each. It's a potential problem!!
