After watching prices on a few sites, I've decided to not get an African Grey. It's just way too expensive for us. I don't want my parents to spend so much money just to make me happy because it's not necessary.
I'm looking at lovebirds and I'm really interested. They're really cute, and I saw one by a budgie, and they're not that big at all. They need a large cage, but we can work that out. Prices I'm seeing are between $25 and $300, which a lot more affordable.
Plus who could resist this cute little face:
They're definitely flock birds, seed/fruit eaters (or maybe they're like budgies and eat meat too (fact that creeped me out)), and bond to each other. Clearly.
I've heard that they can be territorial over things (toys, cage, etc.). They look a little chubby, which is adorable (the way I look at the beak at least).
Is any of this true? And what else do they need.
I'd prefer a bird that's quiet (if they chirp and sing a lot, it's fine as long as they don't screech like my tiels), playful, small and may not be bothered by other pets. If they need a lot of attention, then I can do that because I already give my budgies too much attention
If I kept one lovebird, would it bond only to me or would it be bonded to anyone that interacts with it regularly? Bonding with one person is fine as long as it's me
If this isn't a good bird for me, then what would be? I know I have five birds, but I'm considering giving my tiels back
It's just stressing me out and I don't think I can actually work with them. I'd like to, but I just think I'm not the one to do it. If I do, then I'll have three budgies.
Any answers are appreciated.
because they're adorable:
