Help with my Rainbow Lorikeet

Hi everyone, I need some advice. So a friend of mine found a baby lorikeet on the floor about 2 weeks ago. He was cold, eyes closed and shaking. He was weak and needed desperate help. His beak is only now starting to change to orange

I have had him for 2 days now (I know, I need to give him time) and I want to know any tips on feeding and helping him get used to me. He really doesn’t like me reaching into the cage to try and get him out, but when he is out he’s fine. Sits on my shoulder, loves scratches and sleeps on me. He is still wary though.

Please some advice would be lovely (no judgement or rude comments please, I just want the best for my little bird)

Rescue

Hi this seems to happen quite a lot with young weaning lorikeets. You should try feeding him lorikeet formula with a syringe as it might not be fully weaned yet. Lorikeet formula mixed with warm water 44%C. Fruit lots of it, try anything and if he likes it go with it, sweeter the better. Grapes are readily accepted, sweet apple and apple juice. I think you should take it to a rescue centre as they specialise in helping these birds and can give you advice. He may be dehydrated for example and need a hydration formula urgently. They are unbelievably loving, playful and intelligent birds and you may prefer to let it go once it is rehabilitated so do not clip its wings under any circumstances as that will set it back badly. Best bet is to find a rescue centre to advise you further. If you're not in Australia a bird vet will be your best option. Fingers crossed all goes well for the little thing.
