Goodbye Little Guy

So Hermes ended up going to a new home today. Keeping him didn't work out.
I'm trying not to think about it too much.

The lady that took him was an older lady and was very nice. We e-mailed back and forth a couple times a day for about 5 days. She asked tons and tons of questions about Hermes.
She also showed me pictures of the birds that she already has and their set-ups. She already has 2 Budgies, 2 Parrotlets, and a GCC. She seemed to be the perfect match for Hermes.
Her birds had tons of toys, lots of out of cage time, and she feeds them fresh fruits and veggies every day and rice, etc too.

I'm going to miss him but I know this is for the best for him.

Also, the lady said that if things didn't work out with Hermes she would bring him back to me.

Thanks guys, I'm doing alright as I've been busy today and haven't had time to think about it.

I am very glad I found him a good home so that I don't have to worry about how he's being treated.

Oh, and I'll for sure be sticking around! I still want to hear about all of your guy's birds and live vicariously through all of you. Hahaha. Also, I need to keep my bird knowledge up to par and continue to learn. Then once the day comes where I can eventually add a bird to my life again I won't have forgotten everything!

Thank-you. It would have been way harder had the lady not been the perfect home for him!

So very sorry things did not work out Kayla. I agree that knowing that they go to a good home makes you feel better, when I hand-raise Cockatiels, I always dread so much the day that they go, but knowing they are going with someone who will continue to love, and spoil them loads gives you a relief boost. I am sure Hermes will miss you just as much as you will miss him.

Thanks very much Renae. I think it'd be even harder giving away a baby that you've hand-raised. I don't know if I could do it!
Hermes and the lady seemed to hit it off right away too. I had Hermes out on top of his cage when they showed up and when they walked in the room Hermes started whistling and talking to her, lol. (he only ever does that to people he likes )

That is such a sad thing you did... but it is the right thing... I understand you love your Hubby and he is not a bad guy... you needed to do what was right for your marriage as well as what was right for your bird... glad you can keep in touch with him and glad you are sticking around!

Thanks. Yeah it was the best thing for all of us, but mostly for Hermes. Hopefully he will make a birdy friend at his new home.

I was quite shocked by this! I thought all was well

I'm glad you got him another good home though, especially one with other birds. Maybe ask her to join here so we can all get updates

Oh I'm really going to miss him now (sorry this isn't helping). I'm sure we all have other birds here on the forum who we all think a lot of. Hermes was definitely up there in mine haha!

Thank-you very much guys! I got an update from the lady today:

"Good morning.
Just a quick note to let you know that I had a wonderful evening, with Hermes.
He got his wings clipped. He was a good boy...didn't even try to bite.
He spent hours sitting on top of his cage, looking around at the other birds.
At about 5:00, he started his little whistles and talking. Couldn't understand, but cute and not loud.
7:00 he was on my shoulder and was letting me scratch/rub his head.
8:00, I covered half of his cage and put a little night light on for him.
I checked him a couple times at night and he was sleeping.
This morning, he looks well rested... on a playstand..eating some treats. Listening to music and watching everything that is going on. He likes my big fat cat and the big fat cat, likes him! lol

So proud of the little guy.

Marilyn. "

This made me very happy! Seems he's in the perfect home.

It does! Hermes is a friendly little guy so I had no doubt he'd do well in a new home. I'm glad this lady contacted me, I was starting to have doubts that I would be able to find anyone suitable for him!
