Well, I went to the breeders on Sunday to buy my cage, an A&E playtop. Looked at the sun conures, saw the brown headed parrot, and went home to read a bit more.
Returned Wednesday and bought Topper, My brown headed parrot. He is 4 months old, DNA sexed. A beautiful bird. Same shop that I bought my parrotlet. Hand fed, fledged, weaned, and growls. Never heard a bird growl. He is a bit timid and I am going slow. "Cause his beak is quite a bit bigger than Echo's, and he bites really hard. She told me I could take him out of cage that same night, but I think she meant for me to put him on the floor or a play stand. No, I held him. Not, not!
So, Thursday, I moved Echo's cage and my lap top to the dining room and we sit together with Topper. Took Topper till med-morning to start eating. He got a sip of water and played briefly with shredder toys. Held a foot toy off and on, went in and out of his hut, scatched his beak on his perches. Even permitted me to open the cage door and move a few things, pick a toy from floor and put it back in cup. No fright and no growling.
Same thing today. He has his head tucked right now and napping. Eats well, poops.
Plan to use Mike, the parrot wizard's, target training once I get him to accept food from my hand.
Anyone use Caitec's Oven fresh bites? This is already obviously his favorite and what they fed him in the shop. He also got Tropimix for medium parrots and Higgins fruit to nuts.
I added Roudybush pellets on the first day, and birdy bread, and dried hot peppers and he ate all three. Cooked sweet potato tonight.
Any thoughts on diet. He is similar to a Meyer's or a Senegal; same family.
Pics to come.
