Question CAG vs TAG

So I spoke with Tina (Xandir's breeder and my friend) and she is willing to give me another Grey. She has one pair of CAG's and one pair of TAG's. Both are somewhat new to her and I don't know anything about their past. Obviously the CAG's have given her babies already but the TAG's have not. I think they went to nest twice but all were infertile(?).

I'm really leaning towards a TAG this time but I don't think I've ever even seen one. Mostly thinking TAG because it would be different enough from Xandir. But I've been reading about them and some people believe they are calmer, more accepting of change, less likely to pluck...

But CAG's are awesome! :O) Can you tell me more about both?

They're pretty much the same, from everything I have heard and seen except for the colour and size I think they're almost the same in personality, but I have heard they're more relaxed

from my understanding a TAG is a little smaller than a CAG but not by much they have a maroon tail instead of a bright red one. some people say they are not that different as far as personalty goes Tag i have heard are more acceptable to change but a CAG if raised correctly can be just as as acceptable. you just have to give or show new things to you CAG as it grows up each day. example when i got dusty i introduced new toys new sounds something different all the time and i took him for the first time to an extremely crowded place he done great. i have never had any issues with him plucking, being terrified or anything. TAG and CAG are a lot a like with few differences the biggest thing is they look a little different in size and color. personally i love my CAG he has been my dream bird for a long time

In the way of looks CAGs and TAGs actually look quite different, although they both look like Greys, of course.
Timnehs are much slimmer and are actually quite a bit smaller (when I saw a CAG and TAG side by side I was surprised by the size difference and how much more bulky the CAG looked).
Personally I like the look and size of the TAG more so than the CAG but that's just me.
I say go visit the birds and whichever one you connect the most with is your bird!

I actually met a Timneh grey last Tuesday in a pretty bad pet store. He was in a very small cage with almost no toys (none that he could use anyways) with one dowel perch etc etc and he'd been there for years! Poor thing. He actually was a LOT smaller than I thought they would be, I can really see the difference now having one up in my face haha. He was pretty laid back, he spoke just as good as any CAG I'd heard and he was very very sweet. His size was good too, he looked about the size of a large pionus, which still to me isn't very big I have sort of fallen for them a bit now my self

hmmm, If I were you I'd probably go for the TAG. They are generally more laid-back and friendly and less temperamental. They are less likely to feather pluck and more accepting of change, and are just as likely to talk as a CAG.
However, this may seem like I'm putting CAGs in a bad light, but not all congos are nippy feather pluckers. Inf act, if you raise your grey well, you will end up with a very social and even cuddly bird. As is the case with all birds. Plus CAGs will be easier to find than TAGs.
But what I think you should do is go to visit the babies, and ask the breeder how they raised them, and go from there. Hope you achieve your dream bird!

The breeder is my friend and only has one pair each. I can, and will, meet the babies when the time comes. My preference is to have a baby choose me, otherwise I think I would go with a female TAG.

Years ago when I was married we had a TAG. That bird could talk perfectly in both of our voices. It would really freak my parents out when they were they are we were not. It could also ring so much like the telephone that we would actually go to pick it up. I would pick a TAG over a CAG any day, but that is just me.

Hi Sally,

My first choice is a TAG, prefer female.

I like your new siggy. I replied to your PM on the linnie forum (some time ago :O) but never heard back from you.
