Black poop!!!!

So just got back from work was hanging out with Phoenix and he has a couple poops that are black? He was eating some cherries but I doubt that would make it black I'm going to take him to the vet tomorrow but I am pretty worried, he seems fine and all day his poops were normal except now!!! Help anyone

To me, it sounds like it's just the cherries. I shouldn't be too worried if I were you. Cherries, blackberries and blueberries all turn your bird's poo black, especially if it is a sudden change in diet. I suggest you wait a couple days and see if the poo changes back to normal, but if it doesn't, best to get him checked out.

I've given him cherries in the past and it never made it black! He needs his yearly check up anyways so I'm hoping they will see him tomorrow this is very scary but he's acting completely normal eating (like a pig) and playing and flying.

what kind of consistency is it? Is it the usual consistency of when he eats fresh foods? Or is it sticky with an almost tar-like consistency? If it is tar-like then he could have liver disease or an infection.
Still sometimes you do not notice a change in your birds' poop the first time and notice it later on. Change the newspaper in his cage so you can see if it changes back to normal.
Still, take him to the vet tomorrow and see what he has to say. Could be just the cherries. You know, it is important to notice any changes early on and could even change your birds life! Also, check under the vent area. A normal one should be clean.
I suggest you read this http://www.parrotchronicles.com/feat.../droppings.htm
it helped for my budgie when I thought his poop changed but it changed back to normal. Remember to let us know what the vet says!

He just pooped again and it seems to be a very dark green regular consistency I took the cherry away and he was eating his pellets I will continue to monitor it the Cherry was fresh but still very dark red so I'm hoping that's it.

Take his poops and rub them onto a paper towel. Then hold it up to a bright light to see the real color of the feces.

If black and small, this means he is not eating. If black and large, it could be digested blood from the upper intestines. If dark red it is likely from the cherries. If dark green then it is normal seed poop.

Do let us know what the vet says! It's good that you noticed any change in your birds poop before it got too late

It's good you're still taking him to the vet. I wouldn't worry too much if it's cleared up after the cherries you should see my conures after they've had blackberries and blueberries!

I gotta tell you, my little girl when she was a baby had red poo!
I was horrified when I changed her nappy,
Then I rang my mum she said what she eaten.
She had strawberry jelly but it has beetroot in it to colour it.
Hence the red poo! Lol!
Just thought I'd share.
My tiels eat blabckberries once a year as the bush ripens they can reach them through the mesh.
They all have black poop!
