Having at least 8 birds that talk I have often heard funny things coming from my birds.
One of the first was from Sammy (Sulphur). I was outside talking to someone and he was inside and kept screeming as he wasn't getting any attention. I got fed up and went to the door and told him to shut up. He looked at me with the sweetest most innocent look on his face and said 'Sammy not a good boy'.
Another was from the female Major Mitchell I had. I had only had her for about a month or so and she had only ever said Hello in a very sweet little girlie voice. I decided to put her in a show. At that time I was taking about 17 parrots in large cages to shows and we transported them covered with a tarpaulin on a one tonne truck. My friend slammed the tailgate of the truck in her ear and she yelled at the top of her voice bleep bleep. I had to censor that but I think you can guess, the second word was off. It was so in context and was so funny, there were alot of breeders loading their birds in their vehicles and they were all laughing their heads off. She never cussed again after that, it was a one off and I didn't know she knew a word like that.
Another is from my Short Billed Corella Karl. I was in the laundry and the birds are in an awning attached to it. The dogs came flying out through the back door acting like idiots and knocked something over. Karl yells out 'Well done dopey'. Which is what I say to them inside the house when they knock something over by being idiots. Karl had never seen the reason why I said that before, but he picked it right first off.
Also when he went to his first show, at the end of the show just before presentation, the judge welcomed everyone and thanked them for putting their birds in the show, Karl pipes up and says 'Hello Darling' at the top of his voice.
Who says birds just repeat things parrot fashion. Not me. I firmly believe that quite often they know exactly what they are saying.
