New Bird

Well last night I had to go to a meeting and my vet came up to me and said he has a lost bird handed in, would I like him. Didn't get much information last night except for approximate size. Vital information as it is a bit silly taking a budgie cage if you need to pick up a Too.

Went down about lunchtime to see this little lost one and was surprised to find a Cinnamon Green Cheek. And a tame hand raised one at that. A total little sweetie. Just spent the last hour or so searching Australian Lost and Found sites and no luck. So if no one claims him/her they are mine. Hoping it is a female as I have a single male and he would love a girlfriend.

Will try and get a photo if I can get my camera to work.

Aww, she/he sounds so cute.

Hopefully the owner finds her/him, not that I don't want you to have him/her or anything, I just know how sad it is to lose a bird.

But if no one claims him/her, I, for one wouldn't be able to resist....

Another example of why it's so important to post everywhere if your bird goes missing.

I wouldn't be able to resist either and if nothing else, the previous owners are lucky that he/she was rescued.

Pics please

Is he/she tame?

Yes she/he is very tame. Obviously hand raised. It had been at the vets for quite a few days as he knew he would be seeing me Monday night so didn't bother to ring earlier. The man who found her/him (she flew onto his shoulder up at the shops) has put notices up and no one has claimed her yet.

The vet only had some budgie seed to give it and when we got back home I gave her my normal Peachfaced Mix and she spent the first 4 hours with her head in the feed dish and hardly lifted it out. I think they just grabbed a bag or box at the local supermarket and Nutmeg didn't like it. I have temporarily named him/her Nutmeg. A very sweet natured bird as when I went to pick her/him up I had to grab her/him bodily to transfer from the cat carrier into the travel box I had with me. No biting. She did not want to step up and I had to get her into a smallish round hole of the carry box.

I do hope it is a female and would dearly love to keep him/her. I have a male here who would dearly love a girlfriend.

Birds are rarely re-united with their owners in Australia as the don't think they will be found so don't often bother. Also they consider they would probably not survive in the wild what with the predatory birds around and the inability of finding food and water in the wild. She would definitely stand out to a predator with her bright red belly and red tail. We have lots of Hawks, Falcons and even Eagles around here.
