New addition to the flock!

Well after a long process of visiting different breeders, talking to my favourite bird people, my vet, etc, I finally decided to get a lovely yellow sided conure to join my flock.

I've visited her at the breeder's twice already. She is a 4-5 month old pretty lady the breeder named "Sparkle". I'm not sure if name will stick, but for now, introducing Sparkle!

She is super tame. Does not know how to step up yet, but is very loving, a cuddle-bug, and very adjusted. She lives in the breeder's with lots of young flighted tiels, budgies, conures, linnies, quakers, a grey, etc and is non violent towards any other bird. I got a cage set up for her and I can't wait till I pick her up tomorrow nite.

I agree , Sparkle is a pineapple green cheek conure! Beautiful baby! Mine learnt to step up in about 5 minutes holding a treat out of reach and a finger in front so she had to step on it to get the treat... As soon as she stepped up we said " step up" and gave the treat... Easy peasy ..lol

No. She looks like a pineapple. I met the parents. She is definitely a yellow side, but agreed, looks a LOT like a pineapple.

Here are my 2 green cheeks. On the left is the cinnamon and the right is the pineapple - which one does yours look like compare to mine?

Ill get better pics tomorrow night
Your babies are gorgeous. I'm sure ill need a lot of questions answered.
For starters: favourite treats? I'd like to start training as soon as she settles in.

hmm I think sparkle looks like a cinnamon I always have such a hard time distinguishing cinnamon or pineapple but pineapples always have more red on the belly and looking at both of yours Tippa I think cinnamon.

Millet and nutriberries are a favourite amongst our feathered friends and are very good for training

Pineapple GCC have the Cinnamon Heads with the bright Red and Yellow on their chests... normal Cinnamons do not have the bright colors on the chest. Also, regular yellow-sided GCCs have the black heads not Cinnamon.

(notice the chest colors are really muted)

Well from these posts she looks a lot like a pineapple, however, she hasn't gone through a moult yet. I do have a lot of faith in the breeder knowing what her baby is. Regardless what she is, she is a lovely girl! My boyfriend just read the above post and said "who cares, she purrty". Lol!
I will post a lot of pics soon. And she already has a vet visit scheduled, so ill see what the vet says too

The breeder might not be as experienced with different Conure mutations as you think. Breeders can take AWSOME care of their babies yet know nothing of different mutations, it happens quite a lot surprisingly, if they are just hobby breeders.

Btw, a Pineapple Conure is a cross between a Cinnamon and a Yellow-sided.

Thanks everyone! It's definitely confusing at times to figure out the mutation of the bird, I know that from trying to deal with all the budgie genetics lol. I'm just super excited to bring this beauty home.

For sure, I know how you feel. It took me a while to understand Budgie mutations but it's not that bad once you get the hang of it.

And I bet you're excited! Do you just have Budgies right now?

Yes, just the three budgie musketeers now ( Helios, Chiara and Piccolo), my eldest baby girl ( Buddy) passed away two months ago. I posted the pics of the budgies in Budgie roll call thread.

Firstly, congratulations! Your new baby is adorable

Secondly, that is 100% not a green cheek. I am breeding mine shortly and I breed for mutation. I loooove green cheeks and their mutations! A yellow sided looks a lot like a normal green cheek but with the yellow flashes up the sides and occasionally the red leaks on to the face etc. Yours looks like a cinnamon to me, but as the others have said, it can be hard to tell cinnamon from pineapple. I'll have a good look now

EDIT: definitely a pineapple. Cinnamons have muted belly colours
