Is it really that Bad....

Are GCC (Green Cheek Conures) really that nippy? is it something they grow out of? or is it something you constantly have to work on them with?

If their attention spans are so short, how are they considered cuddly because they would stop and move on to the next thing?

Are they "quite" Birds? or do they tend to still be loud, louder than a Sennie?

Just some questions that I am still confused about?

My GCC is not nippy towards me ever.but she can have her moments towards everyone else.

their low attention spans just means they are always on the go. eating one second, then hanging upside down, then playing with a toy. they are very fun birds to watch My gcc is most cuddly at night. when it is about an hour before bed time she flies over to me and we snuggle for almost the full hour. during the day she is non stop energizer bunny

i dont know how loud a sennie is, but like most birds they can have their loud moments. Mine is mostly noisy in the morning when i am getting ready and at supper time.. it isnt screaming necessarily, just "louder" calls. My parents were concerned about how loud she was going to be, But my parents love her and can tolerate the sound.

any more questions just ask!

Well this is my last year of school(grade 12) after this I'm taking a year off and I will have all the time in the world for my love <3
I leave my GCC alone for about 8 hours a day.. It sounds terrible. But she is always with me in the morning when I get ready for school and as soon as I get home I'm with her untill 9pm at night either making toys with her or just hanging out/training.

Things come up, I have to go out for a few hours, I hang out with friends. It doesn't seem to effect my GCC. Just hide a couple almonds in toys and she is good to go

Over all my GCC is out for a good 4 hours every day. Sometimes more

I don't think it matters on the amount of time, I think it's the quality of time you spend with them

I also have a problem with people/pets well anything dying.
GCC can live for a long time 20-30 years!

But with a long life comes yearly vet visits, a good large cage filled with a variety of perches and toys.

Good luck ~ Kennedy

Yes, VERY nippy for about the first year or year and a half.....then it's pretty smooth. My four year old GCC just started nipping again, but they are 1/10th of what they were, and we know each other enough for me to politely ask her to stop, or what's wrong? and she stops. This just started a day or two ago. BUT, she's very bored now that she can't go out on the sun porch (too cold). So, I'm thinking it's that. Usually ALWAYS a reason for misbehaving when they get a little older....the young nipping--no apparent reason. lol Noise is on the way lesser side of a tiel, but lots more than a budgie. Usually just to say, "hey, let me out of this cage"....

I wish mine loved everyone. People just have to admire her from afar, she will draw blood from anyone attempting to get to know her.

I find that the mutation green cheek's bite is not even 1/10th as bad as the normal green cheek. the power in the normal green cheek's beak is not something to be messed with - if these guys ever turn on you then you better run fast and duck!

Are they nippier than a Sennie would be? Or once they calm down do they tend to be more affectionate than Sennies?

It wouldn't be right to compare these 2 species here because the senegals would not get a fair say due to not many senegal owners are here. I have seen some cuddliest green cheeks and read they have never bitten anyone. Any parrot species can turn on their owners and give out a nip here and there now and again, I do think it's unfair to label green cheeks as being nippy birds - a quaker can be just as bad or even worse in some cases for nipping and biting.

If you want a bouncy and full of energy fun bird then go for a green cheek. If you're the type of person that likes to chill and mellow out then go for the more mellow bird which is the sennie. Honestly no one can say a green cheek is more affectionate than a senegal because every bird is different.

I have 3 green cheeks (one is a hybrid), they're only loud because they're together, or contact calling each other through the walls I'm at home all day but it doesn't mean they have my constant attention, each birds needs separate out of cage time. My first never went through a nippy phase, on her first day she chewed my fingers but she wasn't used to me yet and it did not hurt. My second was the hybrid who is not hand raised. I got him as a breeder bird but he is extremely obedient and loving. Very clever too. Never bit me once! Then there's Perry, my latest bird. Now he's just sassy and knows that he is fabulous. If he had a handbag he'd hit me with it given the chance! BUT he will sit and cuddly for hours on end. I haven't heard of them having a short attention span. None of mine do that's for sure! They're bouncy, full of energy and nuts, but when they want to be they're very sweet, cuddly and love to huddle up to your neck haha. I would say a sennie is louder, I don't own one but the bigger the bird the louder the noise coming out of it for the most part!

I will forever debate between getting a Sennie or a GCC, I have fallen in love with both and can't decide. I went to meet both like I said and the breeder tried pushing me towards a Sennie, he said that the GCC stay pretty nippy and poop everywhere. but I had never heard that before. But I feel in love with one of his female Sennies an a turquoise GCC. And I don't know which will be a better fit

Well I am no parrot expert, since I only got my GCC a week ago. She is the most cuddly and affectionate little birdie! She's home while I'm at work, and gets my attention about 3-4 hrs a day. She has not nipped at me once. All she does is preen and give me kisses. Just like Kennedy said, she loves to cuddle up before bed time and just stay there for an hour. She is not loud at all. Loudest I heard from her so far was a soft contact call when I come home from work. No screaming or any other noise. My budgies out scream her in a minute!
