Getting a new parrot!

Hey all!

Tomorrow we will be adding a 4 year old assumed male Senegal to our bird family. His name is Scooter. My husband and I are very excited, Peter especially. Senegals are his favorite parrot and he is eager to build a relationship of a bird bought specifically for him

Pictures to come soon!

Congratulations!

Of course, I think senegals are great, too. I'm happy Peter will be getting the bird he wants. I look forward to pictures and stories.

A dog was next but we decided to set a few more fiancial goals to pay off first. I want to be able to spoil a doggie rotten. We have a small bit of debt left (aside from student loans) and we want to get rid of it first. Once it's gone we will move to a dog friendly place and get a doberman

Yes, two was our limit, but we have always been open to adding a third if it was a senegal, Peter's dream parrot.
We've been checking Kijiji every now and then for an older Sennie. Well last week one caught our eye and we decided to check him out. And he seems perfect. He has no known vices and is being rehomed due to the fact that the couple has no time for him due to new jobs. The husband is travelling a lot for work and the wife does shift work..

We aren't able to do a quarantine but he was to the vet recently for a check up and has a clean bill of health. He also has been boarded at Mark's on a regular basis and been there for nail trims and wing clippings. His breeder is reputable as well. He is coming from any only bird home. I do believe one should quarantine but we don't have a separate room. Scold me if you'd like. But like Kiwi, he has a clean bill of health and looks and acts very healthy so I'm not worried.

Congratulations! Sennies are definitely one of my favorite species of parrot as well. I wish you all the best and can't wait to see photos of your new feathered friend

He's doing very well

He wouldn't come out of the travel carrier yesterday and was quite frightened and unsure of things. We left the door open, giving him the choice to come out, but he didn't. I expected this, and encouraged Peter to just sit by him and talk to him through the cage bars. Given the species, I thought it was best to practice respect, to show him we mean him no harm.

Well, it's paying off Today he came out and spent time on his playstand and Peter's shoulder. We are having Peter be the primary handler, as we want Scooter to bond with Peter not me. No biting or lunging today at all. He was actually very eager to step up onto Peter's hand Yay!

he's a whistling cutie. He seems wary, but curious, and is showing many signs of relaxation and settling in. Things are looking really good

I like the wait and respect the bird behavior! They are so cool and you don't want any resentment from him. I look forward to pictures.

Peter is really enjoying him. He's very happy that we brought him home, and that he seems to be connecting with Peter. Last night was wonderful. It was adorable seeing him sit on Peter's shoulder and munch away on a dried banana chip lol! He even fluffed his head feathers, asking for a scritch. Though Peter declined as he didnt want to push his luck! lol!

I think things are going to go really well. I love his little noises. My favorite is, Are you a kitty cat? Meow! and a fart-like sound. It makes me giggle!

I'm so happy to hear Peter is enjoying Scooter so much! I need to get a bird that Gareth will actually like So far, it looks like African Greys are the only one to catch his attention, and only for the intelligence and talking. He wants to teach it to do naughty things :hammer:

Scooter certainly sounds like a cutie! We should get some video of the kitty cat question!
