Taking in a Timneh African Grey

We are taking in one of these guys he is DNA'd male and 10 years old he is not tamed all the way but he does like people and takes food from hands. He had leg surgery but he is still able to use it to eat. I am very excited and hope he likes us Expect lots of pictures as usual!

This is great news! Congratulations. Keep us posted.

Sounds like this is the forum for people who like second chance birds.

So any suggestions on how to get him to settle in? Should I not try to hold him for a set time? He has been hand fed treats and such but not held. Any suggestions are great!

Congrats!
I'd leave him alone for the first few days (or until he seems at home a little more), then you can try giving him treats & spending some time with him (inside cage & outside).

Thanks Becca!

Thanks, I plan to put him in the reading room which is very open it is suppose to e a dinning room but we eaat in the kitchen area so it will get converted to the birds room and it is all open and they can see the Play room and the living room. So he can watch us and hopefully warm up to us.

African Greys need a LOT of sunlight. Get sum full spectrum light bulbs and replace as many in his room as you can, they all supposed to match.

If he is not tame, then let him relax. if hes 10 years old hes gonna be set in his ways, and Greys are looney to begin with. They are very sensitive creatures...and he is gonna require A LOT of your attn if you ever wanna see him tame.

I wish you the best. We got our grey as a baby....and shes still looney..lol....I couldnt imagine taking in a 10 year old.

the Timneh is at least a little more subtle than the congo.

Best of Luck to you and yours!!
