what is going on?

this morning butch was being a little weird. its almost like he can't balance at times. he was really using his wings to steady himself when going to another perch. physically he looks fine, his vent it clean as are his eyes and nose. he doesn't have labored breathing and he is not panting, he just wobbles slightly on the perch, almost in circles i guess. i took everyone out to play but him and he was rearing to go (almost more than usual), and chirping to leon who is his best friend. i think i will try and put some lettuce in the cage and millet just to make sure he is eating (since there are 3 others in that cage, it is hard to tell how much he has eaten). should i leave him or quarantine him? i hate leaving him in the cage, but i don't want to really take him out…:S over the last few weeks i have been slowly switching the seed to a healthier blend and everyone seems fine with it. last week was warm out but comfortable and this week is hot and humid again

Could he have hit his head at night and might be concussed? Sounds like he's a little disoriented. I'd definitely keep a close eye on him and maybe take him to the vet just to be sure!

on talk budgies someone said that he might have been exposed to high amounts of metal or been exposed to fumes. neither of those have happened and he is the only one in the flock that is off. he is in a smaller separate cage now and had a little millet and lettuce.

when i took him out of the big cage into the little one, i had him on a perch and i moved the perch up and down and to the side. it felt like there was a gyroscope on the perch (if anyone has ever held one) really trying to balance himself..

Poor boy Maybe he has an inner ear problem? I can't really give much input as I'm not a vet but it just seems like he has something wrong with his head.

You know you could be right, he sounds dizzy which could be ears, I think he needs a vet check if possible, to rule out anything bad (hopefully) and set him right again.

I too would have said it would have been head problems. Can you see anything physically wrong with his foot at all? Seems a little off to me Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery for you

he is favoring his left foot :/

he is not eating he had a little millet this morning and a few nibble of some lettuce just now. last night i had him in the medium sized cage with all of the perches at the same level as the food. then i tried to put him in a small cage with no perches and shredded paper/ polar fleece/ paper towel layer. he did not want to sit on the paper towel and hun on the side of the cage. i tried the hospital tank which he was jumping to get out so i put him back in the medium cage. this morning he was on the side of the cage and wobbly still, so before i left for the barn, i put him in the hospital tank. he had untreated seed, millet, and water in there. when i got home he was all mushed in the corner. i put my hand in and offered some lettuce.

is there any fruits i can blend together to make a liquid to feed with with? please help.. this is a flashback of lenny dying in that tank

i attempted to liquify some fruits and veggies (red leaf lettuce, swiss chard, cherry tomato, strawberry, banana, and broccoli; and water) but most of the things didn't really get chopped up well. so i strained the juice from it and fed about 1 ml by syringe to butch in a few separate feedings. it might not be much, but it has a few nutrients in it. i put the chunky stuff on a square of paper and put it in there. the rest i put in a cup on the trees for the other guys. I'm not sure what else i can do… if i bring him back to the vet, he will be stressed and they will probably just give him some meds but that doesn't mean that he is going to eat after taking them -__- right now i am thinking that its his liver. i read that it is reversible if you give them fruits and not and/much seed because of the fat in it.

I always cringe when I hear of a male budgie with left foot/leg lameness. Both testicular and kidney tumours/cancers manifest themselves with left leg weekness, lameness and paralyses. I lost my male budgie Beau to kidney cancer. Not trying to scare you, just tell you it is a possibility. I hope I'm wrong. Hopefully he will make a full recovery.

Just when I finished your first post before parrotletsrock said it could be testicular cancer that's what came in to my mind too Can you get the Harrison's recovery formula stuff? You make it up like hand rearing food and it can help a lot. There's also a product called Guardian Angel but I don't know if it's available outside of the UK

he is still leaning forward and squatting in the tank. he seems to be interested in the seed after i feed him, but he never actually eats the seed. he might be eating some of the loose millet. we didn't have a ton of fruits but i did blend together water, banana, 1 strawberry, and nectarine. I'm not sure how much gets down his throat, but its something. he is still pooping and all 3 "parts" of the poop are there. he sometimes poops on himself because of how he is lying on his stomach. i clean his bum off and feed him. i try to feed him .5 mL per feeding. he doesn't really like to open up for it though

Poor Shelly, I'm so sorry to hear this.
You could try to give him soaked seeds and parrot mash, that might be easier for him to eat. Or perhaps he would like a fruit and veggie salad cut in very small pieces.
I hope so much it isn't cancer, but he seems to be severely ill.
We cross all fingers and claws that the vet can help him.
The symptoms sound to me like a central nervous problem. You could ask the vet if a vitamin B complex would be helpful.

the vet didn't know what it is and i am really debating if i want to bring him back (i still love them there but for butchs sake, i might wait until his next appointment in a few days). it will just stress him out and worst case senario, i pay another $75 for an exam and they still won't know. they were going to give me pain meds for him (if his foot was hurting) but i don't think pain meds are the answer.

a small update: today i fed him 3 times in the morning with the puree fruit mix. then i left to go to the barn (work) and i cam home around 11:30ish and i fed him again. i have been trying to hand feed him .05 mL (i said .5 ml last time, it was .05) of the puree every hour. i rested his tank on branches in the trees so he can "be" with the flock. he wobbled around and then ate some loose millet (first time he has actually eaten), so i gave him some more. after that, he rested in the corner, rubbed his head on the towel and others tried singing, pecking the tank, and cheerio was a nuisance and tried to chew the top. after a while, i took him off. throughout the day i have been cleaning his bum the best i can because he poops on himself. it seems like he still has solid poop with some water with it. i just cleaned his tank and i noticed that maybe 10 or so seeds were eaten. i put more loose millet on the bottom of the cleaned tank to encourage real food (not this puree for old men!). i caught him squatting and eating some of it. the vet said that they will go up and down in their health, but i am hoping this is a continuous step up!

Karin, yesterday i was trying to mix veggies and water in the blender for him. they didn't puree really so i strained the juice/water out and started him on that (before i did the fruit blend). i took the strained veggies that were pretty much mushy and put some in there for him but he didn't touch it. for the sake of my other birds, i will try to stick with a schedule of only offering pellets from the time they go to bed to the morning when they eat. then when i get out of bed i will provide the seeds and a mash/chop for them.
