Safe trees for gyms and play trees?

I read the sticky and looked around. Couldn't really find much of what i was looking for.

Grandpa and I were planning on heading out to our cabin which is 'in' the forest.
There's lots and lots of pine, there's also birch.
We live in Sweden.

Near the doc's clinic where I live, they have a bunch of apple trees there.
LOADS. They're old and i don't think they produce any apples anymore.
Would it be safe if branches were taken off, to then build a playtree with it?
If so, how would i go about disinfecting branches/sticks that are too big to boil? Stick them in the oven on high temp or warm water and vinegar and scrub scrub scrub?

I would like to keep the bark on though, so the birdie could chew on it, or is that completely unnecessary since there'll be plenty of chew toys and stuff around?

I'm unsure wether I'd be able to get branches though, otherwise, birch trees from the forest would be quite possible since grandpa has a saw.

I just realised, how on earth am I supposed to get branches from a damn pine tree? They're so damn tall ...
So I'm guessing I'm mostly gonna use birch wood, if not only birch wood. Depends on your say on the apple trees and if I'm even able to get any branches off of them.
