Inactive Parrot

I originally posted this in the parrotlet forum on accident so here I go again..... OK, so, I have a Congo African Grey that is about 4 years old. I am her third owner. First owner died of cancer, second owner was my aunt and uncle. They were moving and didn't want to move her across the country (B******T IF YOU ASK ME! I think they just got bored of her because she never bonded to any of them). Anyway, I have had her for over a year and she has bonded to me. She will always step up for me, in and out of the cage. She gives me a kiss when I smooch at her and the rare occasion that she does say a word she does it in my voice and when I pet her she sometimes tries to regurgitate. She is still really inactive though. She plays with her toys a little, when she is out of the cage she either sits on top of it or when I have her on the kitchen table she just sits there and shakes. The only thing she does with any zeal is dump her food bowl and bang it on the bottom of the cage. I have started to feed her at the kitchen table instead of in her cage hoping to cut down on all the seed she is wasting. Any tips? PS just fed her at the table and came into the room to the computer and she flew down and came to find me! This is the first time she has ventured anywhere outside her cage! (Note: I say she but I don't really know. She hasn't laid any eggs, could be a male)

Is it that she's not active when she's out of the cage that is the problem or when she's in the cage? If it's a matter of being in the cage not doing much you could try her with really simple foraging toys and then work your way up with them. Sometimes it can just be a matter of trial and error. I have birds that won't play with anything and others that will be in everything! If it's a matter of being inactive out of the cage and you want her to exercise you could do some recall training with her. Considering she's already flown to you that would be a really good time to start! It's also a bonus tool for your bird to know should she ever get out. Tons of fun and lots of exercise

It's both in and out of the cage. Just yesterday was the first time she started walking around the house a little. I will try some new foraging toys. That may be helpful. She steps up for me, but, she is not flighted. She is starting to try and I am encouraging her. Sometimes she will hold tight to my finger and flap vigorously and sometimes she plays with the toys in her cage but most often she just sits on her perch.
