We just got back from the vet. We were there TWO HOURS. The vet checked him over completely. He said his lungs still sound clear. He took x-rays (Harley had to be slightly sedated), and said everything looks totally normal, no problems at all. He did another lab culture and said there are no abnormal cells at all.
So, thankfully, he checks out perfectly normal. The vet irrigated the nostril that sounds sniffley and said nothing irregular came out. He checked the amount of air he breathes out of each nostril and said the sniffley one passes a little less air, but he is still getting air through it. He said that, at this point, to continue with the steamy bathroom visits once a day for ten minutes. Other than that, he said just to keep an eye on him. If he goes into respiratory distress, to bring him in immediately.
I feel much better knowing he's okay, no infection, nothing abnormal, and he's healthy, so I'll just keep an eye on him. Other than the little sniffle, he's acting normally -- playing, eating, talking, so that's good.
I asked the vet if this was something that Hahn's Macaws are more susceptible to , and he said no, not any more than any other bird. So that's good too.
So, all in all, I'm much more confident that he's going to be okay, but you can BET I'll keep a close eye on him!
