Smile So I weighed the fids today

So we had an adventure, I got my scale in the mail and had to weight my flock.
Desi 78 grams
Charlotte 71 grams
Ricky 65 grams
Lucy 31 grams
Daisy 29 grams

The tiels were so well behaved. I was very proud of them. Lucy wanted nothing to do with it and I got naild a couple times.

I was so shocked at how heavy Charlotte is. She seems so tiny compaired to Desi. lol I thought Ricky would outweigh everyone, but was wrong again.Hes a bit of a piggy. Cant wait to see where the tiels end up since they are still babies.

I did a weigh in yesterday but my scales died before I did 2 more finches, 4 cockatiels, 2 canaries and the 2red-fronted kakarikis! Urgh.

My biggest budgie was a huge English called Sam and she weighed 60g! Only 2g smaller than Dexter! Rico was my smallest budgie weighing in at 37g! He's so tiny!

I was concerned about my maroon bellied x green cheek Pickle though. He only weighs 52g and he looks much smaller than Dexter too he has plenty of meat on him hehe.

I weigh mine once a month, and they stay pretty much at the same weight. I bought an inexpensive digital scale and my husband made a platform with a perch on it, so I don't have any problems with getting them off and on. They all know the "step up" and "step down" command, so that REALLY helps!

Charley (Hahns) - 143 grams
Libby (GCC) - 72 grams
Angelina (Parrotlet) - 24 grams (she's a petite Parrotlet!)

I weigh them before they eat on the first day of the month. It always amazes me how they stay the same weight from month to month!

Thankfully, I have a very clever husband with lots of power tools! He made a round disk out of thin plywood. The disk was the same size as the platform of the scale, about 5". Then he took a spare wooden dowel (one of my old bird perches) and cut and screwed it together in a "T" form. Then he attached it to the wooden base. It won't tip over because it's much wider than the perch, and it can be lifted off the scale if we want to use it without the perch.

It's much easier to weigh them this way. I tried just putting them on the platform of the scale. My little Parrotlet didn't mind, but my GCC and my Hahns were scared. It's kind of slippery and there's nothing for them to grip.

Your scale would have to have the "tare" feature, which means you can turn on the scale, set another object on it, like a bowl or this perch, hit "tare" and the scale will zero out again. That way, when I weigh the bird, the weight of the perch platform isn't included.

If you'd like a picture of my scale with the perch on it, let me know! It's TONS cheaper than buying an actual bird scale with the perch built in!

Ricky and Maxx are the same weight. Maxx is either 65g to 66g every month. So do male GCC's weigh less than females?

It blows me away how much tiels vary. My tiels seem so tiny but then I think, well, they still are young. Desi is only 5 months and Charlotte is 4 months. So they have time to put on a little.
