A Canary question

Hey guys just wondering i noticed my canary sometimes tends to puff himself up do they often do this or is it when they r cold. I have been told he is a he but not to sure also wondering how do u tell the sex of a canary. Thanks. I have notised that he does tend to chirp mor than the yellow one who i have been told the yellow one is female. He makes sort of similar sounds to a finch.
I took the photo of him doing it today does it sometimes and not others. Hes got the black on top of his head.

It could be the breed you know, he looks like a border canary to me and they are very poofy. You can sex them by the male singing. He will have his own unique song, doesn't sound finchlike, completely random but very beautiful. My females make finch like sounds and the males sing all the time to them if they want to breed

At what age should they sing cause they not a year old yet. I havnt heard him sing i have a feeling i could have 2 girls may have to take one back to the breeder swap or get 2 boys and have 4 canaries. Its a big difference in feed tho i have notised not having my big parrots anymore i now just have the 26 budgies and the 2 canaries as before i also had 4 tiels and a red rump parrot.

Oh did you rehome them ? I think they sing before a year, most small birds can breed from a VERY early age. My Lemon didn't sing for weeks and so I got a male for him, he sung a little while after and so now I have two more females too haha
